Here's something I've been playing about with for a couple of nights:-

http://rapidshare.de/files/2279463/Love_Of_My_Life.mp3.html

Apart from the intro, the changes are quite subtle, some delay on the guitar, removal of backing vox in a couple of parts, but the best bit is when the big multi layered guitar comes in. This is from the DVD-A mix, and it's very much enhanced from the normal CD version. Enjoy, and please post your comments!

I was slightly apprehensive about dl this one as this track is my fave version - miles better than the live duet thing. But I have had nothing to fear as Lord F strikes a beauty once again. A refreshing version that, to my ears at least, has Freddie's vocals even more to the front than usual and a nice delay on Brians guitar sound. Excellent!!

New link doesnt work, all it says is "File /files/2268039/Love_Of_My_Life.mp3.html has been deleted.
Reason: Deleted by uploader."

Didn't like the processed vocal (chorusing?) at the beginning. But I understood what you were going for when it went into the song accapella style. Nice.

As upfront as the vocal is, which is really nice, some EQing would've helped it rise. In fact, the whole track could do with some more high-end.

Didn't really like the sound of the guitar on the high-point. Maybe it's personal taste but it was a little overprocessed to my ears at 2:58. Also, when those effects kick in there's an audible click.

Peace,
Adam.

As usual, Adam, I take your critique in the good spirit it was intended, and I respond as follows:-

That was slightly unintentional. It's a bit of phasing where the vocal tracks overlay. Seems to happen when you create a delay effect with Adobe Audition, then mix it in to the base track with Soundforge. As it happened, I thought it sounded OK, but could have done without it.

Sorry, but I disagree. To my ears, it needs no high-end EQ.

In my opinion, the guitar on that part sounds very similar to Brian's guitar sound on later albums, on tracks like Bijou, with a little chorus, and a nice delay. Personally, I think it sounds fine. Have to admit to the (barely) audible click, now you mention it, which I'm sure wasn't there on the first uploaded version, but I didn't actually listen to this all the way through before uploading, after modifying the intro. May have to amend that and upload yet another version. There is a 'bump' sound, like a piano pedal being released, which is on the original, and may have been enhanced by overlaying the 'new' guitar track. That's going to be difficult to remove, without there being an audible volume drop, or overdoing the reverb on the previous guitar part.

OK, not to be outdone by a click that was starting to annoy me, I've amended it, and uploaded it once again. This is the final version! Lol!

By the way, Adam, don't ask me why, but the click wasn't there on the *.wav file. It only appeared when I converted it to MP3. I have now edited it as the MP3, so it should be better, although there is still something there if you really listen. Grrr!!! ;)

Sorry guys, you'll have to download it once more! :)

Actually the third one is better, Lord F.

Error for my last post! I listened after playing my guitar and the hi-end was obviously a little flat to me then. Just listened with fresh ears and it sounds fine.
But I still feel even more so about the guitar bits in the middle. The sound is a little boxy because of the effect. Cut around 350-400Hz and see how it is.

I would also think about pushing certain frequencies to expose the track differently, e.g. 7kHz, 5kHz, 13-15kHz, etc.

Peace,
Adam.

Thanks again for your comments, Adam. As I have said in other posts, one of the most important things for me, when creating these mixes, is that I like what I hear, myself. I do take your point about the guitar sound, but I honestly feel this a matter of personal taste. In this case, I like the mix as it is, and as others also seem to, I don't think I'll be changing it again. I will certainly bear your comments in mind for my next effort. :)
