Brian
''I wish in some ways that we had put 'A Night At The Opera' and 'A Day At The Races' out together because the material for both of them was more or less written at the same time, and it corresponds to an almost exactly similar period in our development, so I regard the two albums as completely parallel, and the fact that one came out after the other is a shame, because it was looked on as a follow-up, whereas really it was sort of an extension of the first one.''

because they released live killers
and two doubles would've been expecting the fans to fork out a lot - esp with all the high unemployment in britain in the 70s

also - by the time they had another realistic chance (the mid-80s) the CD was alive and kicking - so you could release a 50min album and then add extra tracks to 'fill' up the 74mins
this essentially made singles into 'almost doubles' AKOM - is a great example of this

System of a down and metallica are making /selling an double album right now. I think it would great if Queen + Paul Rodgers would do this. It would be great to hear some new stuff. I also think it's good that they didn't make an double album of ANATO and ADATR. Both albums have too much great material and too much potential hits. It's not an usual thing to sell so many singles in a short time. And in those days they were famous and successfull for a short time so it wasn't an option to make one album in about 2 or 3 years. People would have forgotten them.
