In response to the thousands of inquiries I've received regarding the title of this download, no, this is not video of me, performing as one might infer from the title. It's the brilliant guys in Queen performing "Crazy Little Thing Called Love." ;-)

Thanks for sharing this.

Me neither, but it's not a TV performance. I know this because -

a) No TV company would allow Queen to install their own lighting rig in a TV studio (even assuming it would fit) for the sake of one three minute performance.

b) I'm just clever.

This is obviously a portion of a 1979 concert that was filmed. We know it's not Hammersmith because we've seen that, so it must be another. The stage looks regular sized, so it can't be from the Crazy Tour of London, which means it's from between 22-11-79 & 11-12-79. And according to the first edition of Greg's book, it wasn't played at the two Manchester dates (mind you he also says that Brian plays a Stratocaster...). The surprising part to me is that it sounds like a soundboard recording - no audience noise at all.

Where did you get it?

It looks to me as a soundcheck before a show that was filmed by a professional film crew.

Hey PG: Great observations, research, and analysis. One thing though . . . is Brian playing a Strat or a Tele? It's hard to tell because he's wearing black trousers and the black guitar and pick guard all kind of blend, but I think it's a Tele. It looks like that top curve at the base of the neck comes over and right into the neck without making that deep cut that the Strat makes. Splitting hairs, I know . . . ;) But this may also help determine when/where this performance took place. Also, I believe the Tele has more of that rockabilly sound than does the Strat, and would be the guitar of choice until Brian switches over to the Red Special.

Cheers!

As far as I believe, This was filmed as an item for a local news/magazine programme, which followed the National 6.00 BBC News. I also believe that the "abrupt" ending is due to the local presenters link to the next item fading in at the end.

Here in Scotland - that programme is called "Reporting Scotland". I believe in the London area the local programme is called "London Today".

So for those who live in the Bristol area, what is the name of this local news programme, and, does a better quality version exist?

As PG suggests, this is filmed without a live audience, so a stereo version could qualify as another (studio) BBC version. But the question is, is there a stereo version?
