To anyone who hasn't seen it, I've just seen it for the first time today and I can say this:

It's not terribly interesting. The animation is nowhere near as touching as in "Save Me" for instance. BUT, it was a hoot seeing all the little bits of the proper filmclip that they didn't use (just, unused little clips of the band, it's nice). I say get it anyway

Thanks for sharing dude.

I have to say that I have seen this version before and I hated it. It is nothing compared to the official or BBC versions. But anyway, thanks for sharing it because its nice to add to the collection...

Many thanks for sharing this. I had this years ago and managed to lose it over the passage of time so have throughly enjoyed seeing it again.

Personally I think the animation does suit the song, but I'm not that bothered by the storyline of the cartoon - more the way it's animated, it's quite stylized and different (especially from Disney).

Nice to see the other footage as someone else said too...

There are two different versions of the animated video. One was released on the US VHS release "Classic Queen", which is almost certainly the version that's been linked above, and there's an earlier version that was released only as a promo, which is a completely different edit, with more animation and different lighting effects on the footage of the band. The animation has more of an obvious storyline in the original version. In the officially released version, its clear that the animation was chopped up and used out of context, and thus the storyline was lost. Also, in the earlier version, the footage of the band is tinted to a sepia tone instead of being merely black & white, and there are some very nice color effects used sparingly. Its worth tracking down and very interesting to have all three versions to compare. Certainly the UK version, which has only black & white footage of the band and no animation, is a precious and irreplacable document of Freddie's iron will and the band's solidarity in his last days, but the animated versions are nice companion pieces to have as well. I hope all three are officially released on "Greatest Video Hits 3" assuming it ever happens.

This is it, I'm from Canada and on Classic Queen VHS video, there's the semi-animated version that you talk about...And you say it wasn't an official version?

I've never seen the version posted above before - it's got more animation than the version that was released on the Classic Queen VHS tape (in canada anyway).

This must be the promo version you speak of.

Well, actually there are four versions of this video. The other one is directed by Andy Morahan and it has live footage excerpts and the original video with the sepia effect.
So let's hope to have the four of them on "Greatest Video Hits 3"

Please will you direct me in the right way?
