It's becoming clear that the hurricane victims are now a pawn in a fundraising drive. It's all officials can talk about today.. please give money..

It's bullshit. This is America. We have the money. What is this, some fucking excuse for not acting faster? Typical government spin.

I don't see them asking for private donations to pay for bullshit unnecessary wars!

I encourage people to hold on to their money. Don't donate any more money until you see satisfactory results. Donate later if the government goes broke from helping people. I doubt they will.

I want to donate $30,000 .. I'm not going to let people die, while waiting for the government.

That's great but it has no effect. Do you really think they're waiting for $30 to come in before rescuing someone?

it's got nothing to do with Govt Spin and everything to do with international debt. The richest country in the world (USA) also has the largest international debt
America has become more a debt 'junkie' - - than ever before with total debt of $40 trillion, or $136,479 per man, woman and child.

the cost of damage done by Katrina is estimated as
$26bn - insurance
$10bn - local economy
$15bn - overseas trade (local)
$2bn - relief/rescue/shelter
$20bn - long-term rebuilding programme

The USA hasn't got the money and cannot afford to add another $80bn to it's debt by borrowing from the IMF.

That all might be true, but you know we have the equipment and people available to get these people help faster than this.

For example, Chinook helicopters. The huge double rotor choppers that carry entire battalions or whatever you call them into combat.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CH-47_Chinook

These are huge, hollow helicopters that could probably carry 50 people (actually 44) at a time to a safe place with the resources they need. They should have been running non-stop for the past 3-4 days.

I saw on the news today that instead of having the time to ration out food and water to all the victims like they should be doing, the National Guard and Army troops are having to spend their time policing the areas and keeping people from looting. Its a shame that in the wake of this tragedy some people can't refrain from criminal ways. Is it instint to take advantage of a weakened community? What could possibly drive these people who are stealing and hurting others to do this after such a disaster? Stealing and hurting others would be the furthest thing from my mind at a time like this.

Donations SHOULD be made to the Red Cross. They are a worthy cause to donate to. They are helping alot of people.
Let the government pick up the rest of the expense. I saw yesterday on the news that Bush doesnt want any countries help. I say GOOD because if they can spend all this money on useless wars they can spend money to help thier own people in need.

Wrong Lisser, Wrong. They did try to send food and water, but idiots wouldn't let the helicopter land. They had to throw food and drinks out of the side of the helicopter because idiots arn't moving outta the way. How many days has it been? They are acting like they've gone months without food. It's actually a taste of what it's like to live in Africa, but not quite as bad, considering they do go up to a month without food.

As for the police and stuff, they arn't just stopping people from looting. There's been raping of women and children. And murdering and beating.

QUOTE FROM http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/hurricane_katrina
"A military helicopter tried to land at the convention center several times to drop off food and water. But the rushing crowd forced the choppers to back off. Troopers then tossed the supplies to the crowd from 10 feet off the ground and flew away."

Ohh I'm soo sorry. I must be blind and deaf. I know what I saw and heard on the news this morning Messenger of Leah. But thanks for pointing out that I'm just wrong. Get over yourself.
