Does anyone have an idea of the space of time where freddie didnt have a piano ie when he left Zanzibar to live in england? Surely they didnt have a piano in feltham? He left zanzibar when he was 18s so how many years do you think he was absent from his piano playing until he took it up again in england?

Fred had an upright piano in the flat he shared with Roger in the early days, he composed most of the tracks for the first three albums in there. Before that, he used to practice at the pianos of Imperial College, one of his mates had the keys to the music department.

John hated HS. Fred's fave singer was not PR. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' Witness testimonies are often inaccurate. Scotland's not in England. 'Bo Rhap' hasn't got 180 voices.

Somewhat related to this topic ... In an interview Freddie gave during the "Day at the Races" tours, he mentioned that only one song was done on the first album but it was the second album where he really got into playing piano - however, he never really wanted to play piano on tours, he didn't think it would really be something which would work well (obviously changed his mind).
As far as I remember, the piano in the studio was a very very nice concert grand.

Wasn't that during his interview with Kenny Everrett? The same one where he made Freddie report the weather? :-P

For those with the Magic Years Trilogy, Roy Thomas Bakers' wife also mentions about the early days and their (Queen's) financial situation...and mentioned

'...and Freddie wanted to buy a Piano'.

This comment came in a discussion about Queen's history with Sheffield and Trident - and how they weren't being paid very much, and how the management there wasn't willing to pay them very much.

The time period would have been during the first two albums, I'd say?

A.

Actually he arrived in England when he was about 13-14.

No, I'm afraid Vinny is correct - Freddie was nearer 18 when he and his family arrived in England. They fled Zanzibar 1963/1964 time.
