I interviewed him in 2001 for ''Vintage Guitar Magazine.''

I knew he had cancer for the last year, but he died just days after Hurricane Katrina wiped his home in New Orleans off the map. The press has said that it all but broke his heart and he just gave up the will to live.

''He was completely devastated'' Cady said. ''I'm sure he was heartbroken, both literally and figuratively. He evacuated successfully before the hurricane hit, but I'm sure it weighed heavily on his soul.''

Nice man, excellent, influential, musican, singer, songwriter.

Eric Clapton, Ry Cooder, Sonny Landreth, Leon Russell have all played with him, and he was America's good will Ambassador to BOTH Russia and Africa.

I remember how he made me crack up when he kidded around with me during our interview. He will be missed. :(
