Does anyone know what he did with them,or if he still plays them?He is the reason i started on the bass,a truly great and inspirational player.

That makes me sad,he is such a great underrated player, maybe that may be another reason he did not want to go on tour,he may not have had confidence in his playing. He was missed, when him and freddie came on the screen in Belfast,we all went mad, most people for freddie but for me it was for John.:-).

In the last years he used his black Fender Precision, so probably it's still with him.

Been playing now for about 23 years. My favorite Queen bassline would have to be "Dragon Attack" though I like playing most of their earlier material..

You?

I would have to say....Crazy little thing called love is such a fun bassline,i love the runs in radio gaga, but ultimatly CLTCL is my favourite. The weirdest one i have come across is your my best friend,it was really difficult to pick out,the first song i learned on the bass was death on two legs.

There are definitely a lot of fun ones to play. I always thought John never got the credit he deserved as a bassist... Have played in bands that do their songs live also.. TYMD, Hammer to Fall, etc.. Even did Under Pressure live in one band. THAT was fun!! Everyone thought we were playing with the Vanilla Ice song and went nuts when they realized what we were really doing.

The band I'm in now are planning to do a few Queen cover once we get our CD recorded and start playing out. Several potentials have been tossed out including Innuendo and The Show Must Go On. I want to do The Prophet Song!!

I believe John played bass in the band of his son in the early 90's. Around 1993/1994.

johns black bass is the natural finsh bass seen on live at the bowl and in most of the film clips from a day at the races upwards. a good example is somebody to love. its also the same bass in killer queen that was before he stripped the sunburst colour. the natural finsh on borhap clip is not the black one, it was his other fender which he got rid off.

just a little fact for anyone who didnt no.

I told you, it was around 1993-1994. It was the band of his son and JOhn helped them out with the bass. as far as I know they never played live

I`m a guitar player, but i have to agree that "You`re my best Friend" must be a little dificult for bassplayers and it`s so well donne!

But the weirdest one for is "I`m going Slightly mad". His basslines captures the feeling of the song and near the end he slides up and down the fretboard- It`s genius stuff!

When i see heavy metal bassplyers thinking they can play everything with their plectrum i just say to them: -Try play "You`re my best Friend" or "These are the days of our lives" by queen.

Of course you know the end result... they can`t play with their fingers!!!

Take care

I agree, people forget John wrote some of the most known and recognisable basslines out there, there's not many bands where you hear a bassline and know straight away what the song is.Fair enough some of his playing is obvious, but he can be technical when the song calls for it,and straight forward when it requires it.I play bass and have done for years,i can play any style, but theres still something about johns style i love,The man is great and i hope he still plays his basses. He is an inspiration.A true Bass legend.
