Why is there a Brian May guitar, but no The Edge guitar?

Why does any band come up with any irrelevant merchandise, and more importantly, why does anybody want to buy it?

Because U2 wish to be seen as young & hip 40-somethings.

Look on the bright side - there isn't a U2 musical.

I would say try not to be disturbed, but once step at a time...

Well...for one, Bono, U2, and their Manager, Paul McGuninness are VERY business savvy and also very savvy into tapping into and staying relevant with the YOUNGER generation of file sharing/digital music users...and are personal friends with IPOD Apple Demigod...Steve Jobs...

so they signed an exclusive deal with ITunes to put their catalog and the ir newest album ...''How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb's FIRST single release, BEFORE it was released to radio, as an an exclusive FIRST with ITunes and did a commercial for IPOD...with that release/single, ''Vertigo''...

...ON a commercial FOR IPOD. It was a 2 way street deal. U2 doing a commercial for and promoting IPOD, and on the commercial..they sang ''Vertigo'', BEFORE it was released to radio.

Many other artists are signing exclusive deals such as this tapping into the digital market because that is the future of music.

...Queenzone's ''beloved'' Robbie Williams just signed earlier this month a MULTI-MILLION dollar exclusive deal with T-Mobile Cell Phones in the European market to listen to and download his brand new album and the videos from it, BEFORE it's released to radio, as well as EXCLUSIVE to
T-Mobile ONLY, concert footage, VIP Concert Tickets, BEFORE any tickets even go on sale. READ THIS!

http://www.cellular-news.com/story/13581.php

...last week...Madonna, just did the same exact thing with Motorola's new IPOD cell phone with her NEW album to be released later this fall, but you can listen to the songs first, legally download it, and watch videos on Motorola's NEW IPOD Cell phones. (Plus she just released her music catalog in ITunes.) READ THIS!

http://www.jossip.com/gossip/madonna/madonna-sings-for-motorola-20050902.php

...Just ONE thing.....IF Queen did do this, which I think would be great...then do NOT BALK about them..selling out, which people on QZ tend to do.

Do NOT complain that Queen has no special digital deal with IPOD, or a cell phone company or what have you, but then if Queen DOES sign such a deal, go whining about their selling out.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

That's the wave of the future.

Music artists signing exclusive deals with digital music suppliers for their music and videos, concerts, etc.

oh yeah great idea. A Queen iPod ?

1. It'd take four rechargable AA batteries - one of which would suddenly die in 1991, another would stop working but show full charge after 1998.
2. Around 2005 Apple would release new firmware for the Queen iPod to correct the previous problems. This would result in approximately half your saved music catalogue being mysteriously and inexplicably 'wiped' off the hard drive - and replaced with Brian May and Paul Rodgers compostitions.
3. The only iPod 'podcasts' you will be able to pick up will be the broadcasts from 'ROTC Tour'
4. Some older song-writing credits will be re-credited to another band member
5. Your 'priceless first gen' copy of Drammen 82 - will be overwritten (without your request) by Q+PR Live at belfast

Because U2 wanted the cross-promotion. U2 had a new single and then a new album and tour coming up, so it played in perfectly, but Queen aren't that big on marketing. There's been almost no mention of the tour here in America, except on classic rock radio stations and their albums, live or tribute or anything of the sort, go relatively unpromoted...

"Well...for one, Bono, U2, and their Manager, Paul McGuninness are VERY business savvy"

Heh too bad their music sucks.

Actually, if someone wanted to make a fake iPod ad with Queen instead, they could just nick the footage from Invisible Man and modify that. Heck, I'd do it if I didn't hate iPod ads so much.

Anyone remember the video for 'Discoteque' were U2 dressed up as The Village People.

That was even more gay than the 'I Want To Break Free' video.

and honestly WHAT planet are you living on? is the air you are breathing incredibly thin? - because SOMETHING is starving your brain of oxygen...Right now, Queen only have any kind of marketable/known presence in Europe and Sth America. They are completely ignored in USA (the biggest music market in the world), theeir UK star has been on the decendency for about 14 years, and the latest tour and album are not going to change that fact very much...check out the LIVE AT THE BOWL cd - how long was that in the charts for?
Queen DO need marketing and advertising to promote their cause....U2 on the other hand - have continually GOT IT RIGHT on every level - worldwide for about 15 years....
queen need material/prduct placement NOW more than ever...they are in danger of disappearing into a musical abyss - commercially speaking...
and before you spout such utter rubbish again - think about this one point....WORD needs to get around to reach new audiences and increase sales and fan base....bands that are no longer popular split/die/retire - because it ain't worth it carrying on if THEY don't make some money - THEY DON'T DO IT FOR LOVE, YOU KNOW!!!!

q: what was the only Queen record that achieved worldwide acknowledgement in the last 14 years?
a: (the re-release of) Bo Rhap...and why did it gain worldwide exposure? because of it being placed on a material object - WAYNE'S WORLD

Applause Martin.

If you read my first post, I explained all that with U2, as well as that is what MANY artists (I discussed Robbie Williams and Madonna) are all doing.

Product Placement, exclusive digital music/video downloads on IPODS, Cell Phones, etc.

It's the wave of the future, keeps your music relevant with each new generation and in different geographic markets.

Old saying....''You SNOOZE, you LOSE''. That's what Queen has done marketing/promotions/relevanct wise.

P.S. Please READ my first post and the music industry news links on there.
