In 1977 Tom Browne did an interview with all of the members of queen for the BBC. Many years ago now I obtained a reel to reel copy of this show, the tapes had been used to transmit the show in the USA in the same way that many of those Jim Ladd and Alison Steele LP's were used, with occasional breaks for adverts, etc. as part of the recording. The thing is this I've never seen any other reel to reel copies of radio shows for sale and wonder just how rare is it? Anybody got any ideas how rare it is and what it could be worth.

Personally I also think it is a great interview.

I have no idea how rare this interview is, but all I can say is I've never heard of it before. Would you be interested in trading a copy of the interview on cd?

Thanks for the reply Sir_GH I'll be in touch. The interview so far as I know is not actually all that rare it was more the rarity of it being on a reel-reel tape I was interested in.

As far as I remember, this was broadcast in 2 parts on 24th and 26th December on BBC Radio1.

I have part1 and have long been involved on an ongoing quest to locate part2. It is in the house somewhere, I just can't put my hands on it. I'm guessing a trip to the basement is long overdue.

I'll try and dig out part1 and upload it.

It's been widely available in the hub for some time, and I believe someone even uploaded a copy of this interview on QZ a while back.

The reel-to-reel has some value, I'm sure, but I can't imagine it would be worth all that much. With interviews, people seem to be more interested in what's said than with the format it is in. Since this interview is not that rare, the value of the reel-to-reel probably would go down.

I've got several Westwood One radio bits of Queen on CD, but I doubt I could get more than $25 for them.

Thanks Guys,

I guessed that the interview wasn't particularly rare as I've heard the interview elsewhere before. I do have parts 1&2 incidentally. Also of course not many people have the means to play it anymore and with CD versions probably available somewhere it's value, as you say is likely to be reduced, and any value primarily comes from the rarity of this recording in this particular form. I doubt if there are too many reel-reel transmission tapes out there though. There is a photocopied press release with it but that is not of any particular interest.

Thankfully a friend copied it to casette many years ago which I have since trasferred to CD. Plus I didn't pay a great deal for it in the first place.

Ah, the famous BBC 77 interview...

Yeah, I have both parts on CD, but it sounds like a 10th generation copy from the radio.

Snowdome, if you ever read this, please get in touch and let me know if you can get a copy of this interview to me. Yours is probably much better quality than mine.
