Queen's Brian May has been placed 4th in Q magazines light-hearted look at the 25 most pathetic rock stars. In the write up it says Brian, despite being a member of one of the worlds debauched rock bands he seldom drank, never took drugs and hated promiscuity. His Astromony interests are also mentioned. His "least Rock and Roll moment" is playing on the roof of Buckingham Palace. Also included in the list are Chris Martin, Nicky Wire and the number one was Lou Reid. Im totally shocked, what just because he doesnt follow the other rockstars and copy them with there drug taking habbits and sleeping with too many groupies... Thats just sterotypist....

In MY book, that makes Brian the #1 COOLEST Rock star ever! The most pathetic ones are the DEAD ones who lived self destructively on a roller coaster ride of drugs, booze, promiscuous non safe sex.. what's cool about worms eating hedonists John Bonham, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Keith Moon, Graham Parsons, Nico, Kurt Cobain, and God love him (even our Freddie), ..and the ones still living with us, who are quickly flushing their health, careers, and lives down the toilet, like Pete Doherty? Def. NOT cool, just STUPID and PATHETIC!!!!!

I always liked that Brian was a well rounded individual with other interests. He's a thoughtful human being beyond attention seeking. Just my opinion :)

So, basically, Brian's pathetic because he's got morals? What morons came up with this list?

I think Brian was a pioneer of sorts - the rock stars of yesteryear would find themselves in an "Austin Powers" type of situation now. Today coolness is having a level head, a brain for the business side of things and the skill and love of craft that guarantees a good show. I don't think todays audience has the patience for the crap that used to happen (like Steve Tyler passing out at shows, etc). Yay Brian (and John, for that matter). ps. Death to Britney Spears and all other forms of artificial entertainment!
Thank you, God bless you, sweet dreams you lot of tarts, Good-bye!

Brian May aged well. Roger Waters you can add to the list of rock star whom shied away from typical rock star life. He didn't use drugs apart from alcohol in moderation as he saw what drugs did to Syd Barrett then Waters quit smoking in August of 1975 after the WYWH sessions ended(as did David Gilmour who quit whilst recording WYWH after he heard the coughing fit at the beginning of WYWH's title track and DG is pretty much a family man, always has been and took his family on tour with him since 1977).

Did he have lots of affairs in addition to the one with Anita? i always had the impression that he and Chrissie weren't exactly happy and he met anita and after some soul searching decided to leave his wife for Anita. You make it sound like he had loads of affairs. Mind you, wasn't there something about him and his secretary at some point?

He is the best guitarist ever and here they go insulting him for not doing drugs. What bitches. I love you Brian. Same i almost cryed and i started shouting and getting quite stressed out... Its so unfair for brian to be cool he has to use drugs in the end that can kill you its like if you dont take drugs your not human thats bull shit and they know it! Fuck the magazines they dont no nothing! Brian the sweetest talented man in the world the best guitarest and he doesnt need fucking drugs to make him more of a cool hard rockstar which in the end will lead him to death!

People shouldn't take things like this seriously, and that includes Brian because he can come across badly the way he reacts to some stuff. When you have made your name in rock music you have to accept that some people will write unpleasant stuff. I don't agree with or like everything he has done in the last 10-15 years but Brian must accept that those of us old enough to have been lucky to have seen Queen are also old enough not to think he is perfect. He has his faults,we all do. Someone earlier mentioned his affair with Anita while still married. This is personal but the way he treated Chrisse, flirting with Anita and denying the affair wasn't good. She'd stuck with him since before he was famous. She deserved better.

Bono should have top that list. Talking to pope, being nominated for the Peace Nobel etc. That's just NOT the thing you do in rock n' roll. He's not cool, Brian on the other hand ROCKS!
