There really is no place like home. For 24 years I spent alot of time in this great city. Cheered its NFL franchise (gotta love the lovable losers the Saints). Enjoyed the nightlife and got first hand taste of everything thanks to my old job (taxi driver). Besides Mardi Gras and the fancy resteraunts I got to see bits of history too. The scenery is very nice.. I remember driving by good ol Lake Ponchatrain during a rain storm and heading to what they called back in my teenage years "makeout point". Id just sit in my car and let the waves splash over it what an awesome site. I also remember riding on the St.Charles Street car to downtown passing the near by colleges along the way and looking at all the big beautiful homes there and all the nice trees surrounding it. Heaven forbid if it ever snowed there Id have no choice but to sing my own version of Winter Falls. The people there I miss and were very very nice. Not to mention all the famous faces I met along the way (John Goodman of Roseanne). I remember John tapping me on the shoulder and I was wearing a Rickey Williams jersey (this was before the Miami Dolphins and the marijauna vacation) John asked me "Hey Rickey ... since when were you ever a white boy" it was the kinda comment that would make you just spit out whatever you were drinking at the time. I remember all the bike rides I used to take to Lafrenier Park seeing all the ducks swan and geese imaginable. Its hard to believe alot of this is no longer there. Sure John will be there still Hes a trooper. But all the things I enjoied I know will never ever be the same again. Before this tragedy if you had just 7 days to spend there you would find 7 days isnt enough time to enjoy it in all of its glory. Now it will take years before it will ever regain that glory. This has been a very sad year for me and just about every other honest citizen that lived in that legendary city. God Bless New Orleans .. God Bless.
