I have the first 5 Queen LPS in the Japanese mini editions released in 1998 (25th). They are no longer available but have been replaced by new minis in the last couple of years. The new ones are supposed to be remasters. Has anyone heard both and is there a very noticeable improvement in sound in the newer releases. If anyone could answer I would be grateful. Thanks

Agreed.

But, in short, the NW mini-LP versions are the best of the bunch.

I did a search and it came up with nothing. I guessed it might have been brought up before but since no result I thought I would ask.

Try to type "Japan mini LP" in Search field and you'll get few threads about it.

Hmm... I don't believe you. I used the word "remasters" that you yourself specified and came up with the following useful threads that go into heavy detail about the thoughts from the zoners here on the remasters:

Told you the search util would throw up ALL you needed to know.

As you'll be able to tell from reading those, I have always thought a little weary of most of them. In fact, I pretty much turned my back on them and went back to the 1993/4 versions. You will form your own opinion based on what you yourself hear, so don't take our word for it.

Peace,
Adam.

Let him decide for himself... That's the only way any of us can know for sure what is good for them. Personally, I recommend checking them for yourself and deciding whichever you like. If you want some samples, I'll provide side-by-side comparisons.

Peace,
Adam.

My original search was ‘japanese minatures’ and I got one thread which had a list of every CD issue of the LPs but no comparison in sound of th 1998 Jap minis and the more recent Jap minis which was my query. I love my 1998 editions. I think they are beautifully printed (the Queen II cover is far a better reproduction of Mick Rocks photo than the newer mini) and the sound is generally great. But the intro to Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy is way too quiet and Seven Seas Of Rhye could sound better. All of Sheer Heart Attack and ANATO sound fab.

PS thanks for the links. I studied sound recording and music technology and am interested in the issues around current remastering ie; digital vs analogue, compression, EQ, etc.
