A new U.S. fan convention next August, to be held in(drumroll).... Cleveland, Ohio! Wow, how freaking original. Let's hold the Queen weekend event in the same piece of shit city over and over and over and over again! Great idea! That way, nobody will ever want to go.

Cleveland has a reputation for being a place, nobody wants to live in, like Detroit, Pittsburgh and New Jersey. Why in the hell then do the idiots in charge insist on using it continuously as the city to host the Queen convention?? MORONS, wake the hell up!! CLEVELAND SUCKS!!!!!

God forbid they ever put Breakthru in a city that might offer other excitements and be worth checking out. Have fun, I won't be going, again. Probably not next year either. Why? CLEVELAND!!! DURRRRR!!!!(and the drool goes down his/her lips as the convention is officially booked by the invalid organizer.)

ENOUGH of this CLEVELAND SHIT!!!!!!!!

Wow.

I'd like to see you try to organize a convention. Maybe, because they've been doing it in Cleveland year after year, the hotel gives them special rates? Maybe it's cheaper? It's also a fairly centralized city in the US, meaning that anyone can get there fairly easy.

Also, I went to Cleveland last year for the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, and I quite enjoyed the city. Is there something I'm not getting, or is it just 'in' to hate Cleveland?

hmmm

havent been called a idiot in a while.. thanks for the compliment.. i will pass it on to the others too
am sure they will apprieciate it just as much as i do... and invalid too.... gosh the compliements from you continue....thank you so very much

bottom line-- it has been held in another city-- attendance went down from 350 to 125

the majority of people that come to Breakthru-even in that god forsaken city of Cleveland you seem to *ahem* love so much-- come from the surrounding area-Canada-and the NE

returned to Cleveland attendance went back up

hmmmmmmmmm??????????

new hotel ... smack downtown...less then a 5 minute walk to the RRHF- Museums, malls, restaurants, ball parks all within walking distance too...

dont want to come... your loss.... thats your problem.. there will be hundreds who will come because they want to be there--

but dont trash people who dedicate months of their personal time trying to give NA fans something special ......

its harder then you think it is.... and your rant proves that...

Okay, okay, simmer down. I apologize, I was wrong. Particularly for picking on whomever organised it. I guess, if it's Cleveland or bust, it might as well be in Cleveland, eh?

I just, being an American, know the reputation Cleveland has as being a crappy city. I wasn't impressed the one day years ago that I was there, people I know who have lived there say how bad it sucks, and you always here Cleveland, Detroit and New Jersey as the cities being picked on the most within our culture(movies/television/etc.).

The city you tried before was my home city of Dallas, and I wouldn't come back here either if I were the organizers. The event was in the dumpiest Holliday Inn in all of Irving(bad suburb for Dallas).

The bottom line: I apologize to those who try and make the event happen. I just think it would be nice if the thing would uproot from Cleveland at some point. Las Vegas, New York, Los Angeles, Nashville, Chicago, New Orleans(eventually), Orlando, Boston, Philladelphia, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Memphis, St. Louis, Washington D.C., San Francisco and probably many other places would be WAY better than Cleveland. Who cares if the Rock'n roll Hall of Fame is there. If you look at who they put in vs. who they don't, it's almost as much a joke as the Grammy's.

You guys would get a way better turn out if the city itself was an interesting place. Not many people are going to want to drive or fly across the country just for the convention alone... but put the thing in Orlando and suddenly they can take the kids to Disney World... put it in Las Vegas and suddenly there's a million other things to do... put it in Washington D.C. and you can take a break out of the convention to go to the Smithsonian.

I hope you guys eventually will have the confidence to book it outside of Cleveland. Sorry once again for my rude remarks.

In fairness, to ay that it's in Cleveland because the one other city you tried had a poor attendance is a little unfair on lots of other cities.

read it again PG think you read too much into those two comments..

as far as the dallas hotel-- two committee members spent 3 days(drove from NM) checking out hotels and available weekends....most were a bust and a few the room price and downpayments were way out of our league....

we found that one by accident-- was it the best? nah but it was in the price range and requirements we needed

for me i liked it better then the raddison/quality inn in middleburg heights....you win some you loose some

other cities have been considered also-- atlanta, orlando, toronto, mrytle beach, st louis, chicago to name a few

one day some day....

And Dallas, not that it's a good choice, wasn't even given a fair deal in a way because you put on the even in a hole. Imagine a Holliday Inn location that peaked in the early '60s, air filled with the combined smell of a very old building mixed with cheap cleaning fluids. The convention room was next door to some Jesus/holy roller convention. I even heard one of these creepy bastards snickering out, "Queen, that evil, devil, gay band." Not what it could have been.

Dallas, however, is one big shopping mall and not a good choice sadly for a Queen convention. I'm sure you picked it because of Queen For A Day.

actually it was not chosen for the band

it was chosen as a location to hopefully pull more people from the west coast in...since they kept saying Cleveland was too far away....

that misconception now cleared up

cleveland has had church gatherings and S&M conventions next to them also...

**edit as i forgot one** an actual wedding and reception next to us... couple came in we played the wedding march and 3/4's of their guests partied with us the rest of the night.. ***

atlanta had a church meeting next to it
(pentacostal mind you)

chicago had a amway convention

God knows what Detroit and other locations with the old Royal Vision ones had to deal with

big friggin deal some self rightous makes a comment...

for Queen fans that should be nothing new dont cha think?

Yeah...I'd go with Myrtle Beach there, iron..;-) See..people could plan an entire family vacation around it, and I already showed you the link to the convention center, which is quite nice. Pieter can attest to that. He stayed there in October. Anywho..something to concider for the future. Oh, btw..people from Ohio must like Myrtle Beach. You see TONS of Ohio license plates there in the summer..;-)

But..I'll drive my ass up to Cleveland next year.. I promise. :-)

Paul, if I may ......

Whether the hotel was the Taj Mahal of Dallas, a rat-infested Motel 6, or something in-between.... had NOTHING to do with attendance. Attendees pre-register, site unseen. People also vote with their pocketbooks. Airfare was obviously a big deterrant to some. We thought the hotel and surrounding area quite acceptable, and enjoyed our trip into Dallas.

The committee gave it a try, it didn't work, so they went back to a proven 'winning' location, more convenient to the larger base of fans who do attend these events.

Lower numbers recently could be due to moving the dates, a slower economy, the kids going to college, or the increased price of lima beans.

Work it around a visit to Cedar Point or the Pro Football Hall of Fame, each less than two hours away. The downtown mall is pretty cool, Jacobs Field is minutes away, or you could take a walk on Lake Erie (oops, they cleaned that up, didn't they?). Or jump in it. Whatever floats your bobber.

We're 99.99% sure to attend this year. No school interferences this time. Best of luck in '06.

i've been to 3 of the Breakthrus...Cleveland is a place where at least some Canadians can meet...there's plenty to do there, but there is an issue with securing the carpet

Iron Eagle:

Brilliant thread! I'm reminded of what a great time I had with everyone at Breathru in Cleveland this past August. So many nice people, lots of fun Queen stuff, an easy walk to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, AND, of course, John Deacon's birthday party!

Thanks so much to you and the others who took the risk, sacrificed your spare time, and worked so hard to ensure that everyone had a great weekend. It was terrific to see so many of the "conventioneers" (not a reference to Rocky Horror) at the New Jersey Tailgate Party and inside, rockin' at The Meadowlands last month.

Dude, I totally owe you a Martini or 12! Thanks so much. See you in August! And I hope Shirley will be tending bar again!

Cheers and love,

Cindy

okay since the topic is up there again....I'll get my two cents or so in there....(I guess that is about 1.25c in US funds...

First I would like to thank the organizers for putting another one on this past year and the one coming....great job and I appreciate all the hard work that goes into organizing it....and for everyone who has never been...they are fun and worthwhile events....

I am okay with going to Cleveland yet again this year but really would prefer to go to another city and attract other fans to make things bigger.....if you feel Toronto (amazing city, one of the largest North American cities and has a tremendous Queen fanbase) is too far north, why not try something close to NYC or the East Coast... only because again you have one of the largest cities, tremendous fanbase, you could see that clearly at the Meadowlands....it would seem that 1/4 of America is around the east coast area..... .over the years I've been to conventions in Detroit, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Chicago, etc. and each of those were big....and drew big from their respective areas........personally I just have more fun going to a completely new place (it could be anywhere....as long as you get the fans) which was also a big part of the appeal of going to the convention - it becomes a true vacation as well.

I know that we'd need individuals to help organize things from those locations but I really think that could happen....in future years

again just my humble opinion....still looking forward to this one though
