This could be a potentially deep song. I say potentially because we'll probably never know what Freddie was going through. But I think it may shed some light on how much of a lovig person Freddie Mercury really was.

I think the song many be about his "Inner Family" the people who took care of him when he was ill. I don't think it was about one person (Mary Austin for example) but I could be wrong.

The last verse Freddie Mercury sung could potentially really shows how much of an unselfish human being he was:

"I don't want to make no waves cause you can give me all the love that I crave" - That could potentially mean He doesn't need to go public with his illness to his legion of fans because his "inner family" is already giving him all the love he could imagine.

"I can't take it if you see me cry I long for peace before I die" - He could easily have meant he wouldn't be able to pass in peace if his "inner family" knew how much of a toll it was really taking on him.

A real unselfish thing to do to not crumble when facing that because you don't want dont want to burden others more than necessary. My interpretation could be wrong because we may never know what was going on through Freddie's head but it's a great song either way.

How dare everyone except All Queen's People ignore my brilliant input. What an insult. Be gone all of you.

It's a perfect song up until the kid shouting- makes me CRINGE! Too bloody obvious... And a bit pretensious.
The song itself is BRILLIANT! Love the guitar tone, love Freddie's excellent vocal performance- very emotional piece. If there was a version without the kid at the end...

I've always felt it makes a perfect pair with A Winter's Tale on the album. A Winter's tale shows Freddie in a moment of bliss and serenity,Mother Love shows his troubled mind and pain. This combination of moods can reflect most people's lives too, I guess. Going through big troubles and still feeling that huge joy for living...it happens to me so often...
I often skip both songs when I hear the album. Too personal, too painful to listen to...it just takes the right moment.

Both songs show wonderful sides of King Freddie, and especially his huge, incredible courage that always humbles me.

I too dislike the baby crying at the end, and also the rewind sounds...It would have been perfect as it was.

Brian wrote the music and the last verse. The rest of the lyrics were written by Freddie.
Brian was in a bad depression at the time so I guess this beautiful song may reflect both Freddie's and Brian's state of mind.

I see. I stand corrected. Apparently, there is a thread about songwriting credits right now. Unfortunately, I discovered it after I posted the above post.
