Great as always. Do you know if all the other Greatest Hits compilations were released in 1981 or later?

Andy Young has an impressive list of different countries/track lists but no release dates

Some versions were released much later. The key track is "Under Pressure".

In the UK 'Greatest Hits' was released before 'Under Pressure', (so the track is not on the original UK LP), but in some countries it was released after the single, so the track features on their version of the LP.

I have not listed the dates, but I guess I could, but it would mean returning to the drawing board!

Has anyone else noticed the difference in the Canadian Greatest Hits version of "Keep Yourself Alive"?

It sounds to me like it's been slightly mastered differently. For instance, Rogers symbols are definitely louder than the same track on the Queen LP or any other versions...

Some notes on GREATEST HITS:
- Argentinian LP had Love Of My Life (live) taken from the single. Also there is a promo LP "for promotion in record stores" with a medley of songs from this release.
- Elektra LP/CD had Under Pressure and also Keep Yourself Alive (single edit).
- Japanese LP had Teo Torriatte (single edit).

In the UK 'Under Pressure' was released on 26th October - before GH.

It's a bit more complicated than that. The 'Greatest Hits' LP, was actually in the "process" (or the works if you like), before the release of 'Under Pressure'.

I know that seems strange, but it is a bit like a magazine feature missing a Xmas deadline - even though technically speaking - the feature was written before the end of October!

To combat this problem some bands hold back a single to coincide with the LP release. (E.g: Paul MacCartney's Greatest Hits contained the single 'Once Upon A Long Ago'). The problem with this strategy, (as can be seen here), is that the designated single sometimes does not become a greatest hit!

In the case of 'Under Pressure' the album was given the "green-light" before the planned release of the single in the UK. The problem with this strategy is, that by the time the new single becomes a success, it is too late to reverse the process.

So technically, even though date-wise you are correct, in a strange way, so too is my opening statement.

That's what is so great about Queenzone. Everyone is a winner!!

Some may have noticed 'Backchat' included on this setlist of a 1981 concert.

I have taken the track-listing directly from the bootleg, where the instrumental intro to 'Keep Yourself Alive' has been mysterious called 'Backchat'.

I think it bears no similarity to the Queen 'Hot Space' track, others meanwhile, have said that it does.

Therefore, like 'Catchphrase', I just write what I see, and leave the discussions to your good selves!

Thanks for these posts as they are very informative. But I have a question, I've noticed there are usually bootleg live shows included in these posts. Does the inclusion of these shows mean they were officially recorded and unreleased or is it just that they are the most popular shows of that tour? I'm just curious to know how you determine which shows to include.

Personally, while it SOUNDS somewhat like Back Chat, I think it's just another one of those improvisations. I think it should be called "A Little Bit Lower".

Yes, that 'Back Chat improvisation' was performed in several concerts in 1981. Sometimes it contained some lines from the song. So perhaps 'Back Chat' was already at some stage of development. By the way, that song was initially known by the working title of 'Wooley Hat', if I remember well.

There are soundboard full recordings from all QUEEN concerts at the Velez Sarsfield stadium. The March 1st show was filmed and broadcasted in full by Canal 9 - parts of this concert (not the one on March 8th) are what it is used in RARE LIVE. Later re-broadcastings of this show omitted the song 'Get Down, Make Love' as it was banned by the government. Also the press conference was filmed and partly broadcasted.

When I began this series, I originally intended to include studio releases only.

It then (by popular request) expanded to include the most common Bootleg CDs and LPs like 'Sheetkickers' or 'Cardiac Arrest', and also the more professional attempts like 'A Day At The Warehouse'.

Now (especially since the advent of MP3 downloads) it seems to have taken on a life of it's own - and has expanded to include all live bootlegs.

Ofcourse, if a soundboard version is known to exist, then obviously, this would take priority.
