Make Rainbow Rising (their second album) your first purchase.

Cozy Powell on drums, and the brilliant Ronnie James Dio on vocals.

Listen to Stargazer with the lights out and headphones on, it will blow you away I promise.

'Rising' is one of THE albums every rock fan should own !

Rainbow Live On Stage is a great live album. R J Dio could certainly cut it live !!

Love them, one of the most underrated bands out there. Deep Purple gets loads of respect, but nobody knows Rainbow, while they are on the same level (well, more or less).

Favorite track: Mistreated (live)

If you want to buy an album, stick to the ones with Dio, although the later ones are also still acceptable. But the Dio material really kicks ass.

they're great... I have to agree they did a stunning version of mistreated live although it's a deep purple track.

Ah well.. the band exsists out of the almost entirely MK III set up of Deep Purple

Nah, it's more a Ritchie Blackmore song ;)
But indeed, you're right, it's technically a DP song.

'Technically' in the sense that it appeared on a Deep Purple album, and was performed live by Deep Purple.( Not to mention by David Coverdale when he was with Whitesnake. Check out the version on Whitesnake: Live In The Heart Of The City. Beats the Rainbow version hands down).

Rising is definitely the best of the bunch
closely followed by Long Live Rock N Roll
and then Down To Earth

saw them live at Bingley Hall Stafford, think it was 81/82ish - Rose Tattoo supported them and blew them off stage

I LOVE Rainbow, but only the period with Ronnie James Dio on vocals.

Indeed Rainbow Rising is sublime!
Close second to me is the On Stage live-album.

The debut is alright, I think, though it sounds a bit too slow and lame. Long Live Rock n Roll is also very good - but maybe a bit too poppy.
Though live even the least interesting songs from those albums are MAGIC! ;-)
