A couple of months ago I wrote some idiotic Q+PR bashing comment on the board (idiotic because I was bashing them after only having heard one song... I rather like them now actually) and was met by quite a bit of hostility. Now, the fact that I was met with hostility really doesn’t bother me, as I read the comment a couple of minutes ago and actually thought to myself “wow… what a jackass I was”, but one bit of my argument really kind of made sense in a way and, even though I should’ve expressed myself better, I think I was right in saying it. The bit I am referring to goes a little something like this: OH, AND ANOTHER THING!!! Brian going around saying that Freddie would've loved the Q+PR thing... NOT COOL!!! No he wouldn't have! NO HE WOULDN'T HAVE MR. MAY!!! So STOP IT!!!

I told you I should’ve expressed myself better… but anyway… I still stand by it. I mean, it’s cool if Brian wants to say “oh, John fully endorses what we’re doing” because John is alive and can actually speak for himself and/or release a statement where he says that he’s ok with it… but to bring Freddie into it was sort of out of place for me. Some people scolded me and told me that Brian could totally make that comment because he and Fred were like brothers and I should just shut up because I didn’t know shit about fuck. Well, I do admit that I never met Mr. Mercury and couldn’t really say what he thought about the subject but I think that that argument doesn’t really hold up because that would mean that Brian could just use that “oh yeah… I know Freddie and he would’ve LOVED this” card for any future endeavor Queen might be associated with and all us fans could do about it is fall back on what he said and say “well… if you say so”. For example, Brian (along with Roger and the consent of John, of course) decides to re-release “Bohemian Rhapsody” but in place of the operatic bit, fart noises are replaced… ok, well we know Roger and John agreed to it, but what about Freddie? Oh don’t worry, everything would be ok, because in a press release Brian sent out he used that magic phrase “oh yeah, Freddie would’ve loved it” so basically we would all have to accept it and be ok with it (it may be a little extreme but I can asume you can all see where I’m going with this). Now, I’m not negating Fred and Brian’s relationship at all; I really do think they were extremely close, but I still don’t think that that gives Brian enough right to say what he said. In fact, after the early years (72-76 perhaps maybe well into the early 80’s) the band didn’t really hang out that much. Yeah they would go to the occasional party together but most of their time was spent working in the studio and not socializing about. This means that after the studio they all went their separate ways (vacations, different parties or clubs, etc.), which really made them more business partners than friends during the later years (I think creative battles and backstage arguments had to do a lot with this). Even so, if Brian and Fred would’ve kept a brotherly and immensely close relationship together I wouldn’t have had accepted the comment anyway, because it didn’t come from Freddie’s own two lips. Hell, it could’ve been Mary, Jim, or even Freddie’s mum saying that Fred would’ve loved the new line-up and I still would’ve found it to be bull because it didn’t come from the man himself. So unless Freddie is the Messiah and decides to come down from the heavens to tell us “yes my children… Q+PR is a blessed union which I, myself, have personally sanctified” I will hold Mr. May’s and any other comments pertaining Freddie’s thoughts about any subject said by anyone except Mr. Mercury himself to be, as I so bluntly put it before, NOT COOL!!!

What do you think? Did I express myself better this time? Does it actually make sense now? Do you agree? Disagree? Any feedback would be great, tell me what you think but please do so in a respectful manner.

Surely Brian knows Freddie far better than any of us could ever, as does Roger, as does John, and Queen's management (well, most of them anyway)...

If, per chance, someone seriously thought that they shouldn't go on tour, then they would have spoke up, and possibly have even made life difficult about it if Brian/Rog etc persisted, utilising the dirty medium that is the press association, for example.

Now, given these facts, and that you are just someone with a slightly close-minded and one-sided oponion regarding the tour, I think the term "Shhhhhh" wouldn't seem out of place right now.

Shhhhhh.

Nail and head my friend, It never fails to amaze me that so many folk here seem to think they know Freddie better than Brian, BOLLOCKS

You guys know no more than you do about anybody you have never met, Freddie Mercury was a stage persona, the real Freddie was someone you will NEVER know, so to make stupid comment like Freddie would have hated Q+PR is mindless drivel, YOU DON'T HAVE A CLUE

Here's my opinion, and it's nothing more than opinion --

1. You would do yourself a favor by looking at Brian's statement ("Freddie would have loved it") as merely Brian's opinion, not as a statement of fact.

2. You are GROSSLY overanalyzing the acceptability of the Q+PR situation.

3. You are ridiculously absorbed in defending your position.

And, in the future, try to be more concise in your writing.

Ok… first off I never said I knew Freddie at all; in fact, I discredited my first “Freddie would’ve hated the Q+PR tour”… I actually made it clear that I didn’t know what Fred would think and all I said was that if I don’t hear it from Fred’s own mouth I won’t believe it. Second, I corrected my first statement and made it clear that I’m not against the tour at all and am not denying its worldwide acceptability. As I said before: I LIKE Q+PR AND HAVE A TICKET FOR THE UPCOMING US TOUR, kay?

Oh… and Rockyraccon… sorry I couldn’t be more concise. I like to embellish quite a bit. :) We can’t all be Pulitzer Prize winners, now can we?
;)

Madman, I don't mind the embellishment. It's just that I suffer from attention deficit disorder, and if I can't absorb the entire message within about two sentences, I start skimming over everything else and miss the remainder of the message.

Nobody is asking for Pulitzer winners here. But I suspect that most readers would agree that brevity is a virtue.

And thanks for acknowledging my comments. They were intended to be constructive, certainly not to be overly critical or insulting. And I hope Brian was right in his "opinion" that Freddie would have liked the idea of Q+PR.

Also note that PR has a lot of name recognition. BC was an allright band.

What the hell difference does it make?
We ALL know that no one could ever take Freddie's place (I cringe when I hear a different voice singing a Queen song), so if Brian and Roger want to form a fake-ass Queen, let them.

I actually think it's kinda sad...
