Coldplay are awesome, wish I could have gotten tickets for this month's gigs.

Coldplay is pure, unadulterated crap...

Of course, if you like Lite Rock, if you like Soft Rock, if you like Adult Contemporary, if you like a third rate U2 cover band, then fine...

But to use Coldplay and rock and roll in the same sentence is a joke.

Personally, I would not walk across the street to see them.

Come on, if there were any one indication of being a lifeless nerd, it would be fandom of Coldplay. Or REM. Or Stephen Hawking.

Anyway, I was introduced to Coldplay this summer, when I was actually awake early enough to watch music videos on MTV and VH1. Little did I know that "watching music videos on MTV and VH1" was tantamount to "watching Coldplay videos on MTV and VH1." To say the least, it was boring.

What a full of shit hypocrite is Justin Hawkins.

He's been ripping off Freddie Mercury far more than Chris Martin has been ripping off Bono. I don't like Coldplay that much except for 'Speed Of Sound', but I can tell you that even though their music is extremely dull and boring at least Coldplay doesn't carbon copy songs from other bands, unlike 'The Darkness'.

Just because he's being hypocritical doesn't mean he doesn't have a point. This is something that is often overseen.

How does Justin Hawkins make a point? If he wanted NOT to be taken seriously, he should have started a comedy band like 'Spinal Tap'. The problem is that Justin Hawkins has a comedy band that expects to be taken seriously.

It doesn't really seem, though, that the Darkness are ripping off anything except good old fashioned hard rock. They aren't being very original, but many good bands aren't - only the great ones are - your Queens, your Led Zeppelins, your Pink Floyds...obviously the Darkness aren't headed to that tier, but consider bands like Poison, Motley Crue, and the whole 80's metal genre. Sure they may have been so-called "carbon copies" of each other, but many good bands and memorable songs were produced in that era, in my opinion. I actually like the Darkness, especially as compared to much of the other music we hear in today's mainstream. Sure, you may say, "Oh, they sound just like AC/DC" or whomever you wish to compare them to, but consider just about any other new releases in the mainstream today. They belong under one of two categories: "Unoriginal" or "Not good." Of course, we're all waiting for that exception, but until then, I think I'll settle for "Unoriginal."

Are you really gonna sit there with a straight face and tell me that Chris Martin isn't a dead Bono wannabe? That Coldplay dosen't carbon copy U2 songs?

Jingles, I completely agree.

It took quite some time for me to like some of Coldplay's stuff because they are very AC (adult contemporary) sounding and lightweight at times, (but I never thought they copied U2), and I think they are in fact just starting to find their own distinct voice and sound.

I very much like ''Fix You'' and ''In My Place'' and LOVED their performance at Live 8.

I also admire Chris Martin for his stance on fair trade and he takes just as much flack for his political and social awareness views as Bono and Bob Geldof do.

The Darkness however, are without any distinct sound and are a blatant as you said, carbon copy in music, style, fashion, presentation, anything and everything of Freddie and Queen.

Damn, they even trumpeted how the new album was produced by Roy Thomas baker, recorded in part, at one of Queen's recording studios, they used Freddie's piano from BoRhap on the new album, Justin wears leotards/unitards, and totally mimicks both Freddie's in studio recorded and live performance presentation.

The Darkness make Robbie Williams look like a total original..and THAT is saying something.

The Hawkins Brothers have no idea how to create their own, unique, original sound, (and if they do, they don't WANT to, they're caught up in copying, no BEING Queen).

I cannot fathom how ANYONE can say the Darkness sounds anything like Queen.

Perhaps the presentation is similar, but there are no parallels musically or lyrically - you'd never make the compariston from merely listening to the record.

I always thought that Coldplay sounds more like Radiohead than U2.
