We are all familiar with cover-versions and tribute albums. A frequent fantasy of mine, however, is the complete swapping of back catalogues for an entire live performance, e.g. REM playing only U2, U2 playing Depeche Mode, Coldplay playing Radiohead. I'm not that interested in who might play Queen for a night, but- if it were only possible (*sigh*)- who would it be great to have the full-Freddie version of Queen cover for a concert or album? Here are some suggestions:

Elton John
George Michael and Wham
Duran Duran
REM
Spice Girls
Blondie
Rolling Stones

who is the other guy in Wham!, btw? does any one actually know.

i think you have a fair case. i don't think the Spice Girls. George Michael could probably do it. but you really need a band.

wait, what am i on about! they already have a cover band... The Darkness.

No, no.... not talking about people covering Queen, talking about Queen covering other people. Queen playing an entire night of Spice Girls songs. Can't you see it? Freddie in a union jack mini-skirt starting a song "Well I tell you want, what I really really want..."

It would be soooo cool.

I would have wet my pants if Queen played A Day In The Life.

THAT'S more like it. Queen doing an entire night of Beatles songs would be amazing. Would very much like to have been at the show where they played Imagine (I know, Lennon solo). Would love to hear them do a lot of Lennon solo material, especially Jealous Guy.

But lets broaden this out a little.. what about Queen covering, say, kd lang? Freddie's voice would have been great for songs usually sung by women. The fun thing about this topic is- if you know the songs in question- you can pretty much imagine how Queen would have sounded playing them. What about Bowie?? I think Queen would do great versions of Heroes, Changes. And of course Elton John.

R.E.M. once played a concert where Stipe kept his back to the audience for the entire concert and didn't play even one R.E.M. song. I think my mum was at that concert, but I'd have to check.

I could totally see Freddie singing It's The End Of The World As We Know It, or Call Me. Or Imagine.

This can't end well.

Andrew Ridgley. Some people say "George Michael and Wham!" but it's incorrect. Here in the USA, a lot of people say "Freddie Mercury and Queen", even some radio stations.
