I'll keep my list short and meaningful.

1. Brian May - excellent, unique tone; trademark polyphonic solos; excellent ear for music - great songwriting

2. Jimmy Page - single, most dominant influence on my and several others' playing

3. Paul Gilbert - in my opinion, one of the most technically dazzling guitarists ever; despite this, he retains a perfect, melodic harmony in all his songs

4. Eric Johnson - very underrated; my favorite tone, even over Brian's; perfect technique; "Cliffs of Dover"

5. Glen Tipton/K.K. Downing - spectacular pioneers of heavy metal; highly underrated due to the fact that both guitar players fill one spot

6. Kurt Cobain - just kidding, this guy's a fucking waste

Interesting taste. Just for my sense of wonder, are you a musician?

Steve Vai's got impressive speed on his side... but really, a very boring musician. His songs don't grab me at all - now 14 hour rehearsals just so you get every not right are fine and everything, but shouldn't he worry more about writing music that people will remember?

Paul Gilbert is pretty damn amazing, it was actually his video that I learnt fretboard tapping from (though I quickly went through a big list of other guitarists who use it tastefully).

Brian May.

I hear all kinds of so-called guitarists say that Hendrix is crap. What a crock. I will not waste my time defending against the asshats. They clearly don't know what they're talking about.

Alvin Lee - amazing high speed blues riffs, the guy's a genius.

And me. No, I'm really not very good, but I have to say to anyone considering learning how to play guitar - it's very therapeutic, it makes me feel like a million dollars after I'm finished, it's well worth it. Play play play!

This might get a bit varied, but what can I say? I'm a weirdo!

In no particular order:
Slash
Brian May
Eric Clapton
Dave Gilmour
Jimi Hendrix
The Edge
Steve Jones
Graham Coxon
Steve Cropper
BB King (who I'm going to see on the 1st April!)
John Lee Hooker
Kirk Hammett
Dave Mustaine
Tony Iommi
Daron Malakian (S.O.A.D)

Petrucci is the man!
Apart from him- Malakian, Iommi, Morse... Gilmour of course...
Don't really like Vai, Satriani or Malmsteen- great technique but just boring- shit loads of pointless doodling...
