I was just wondering why little kids was on that video and not Queen( only in the ending) well, perhaps it´s was because of Freddie´s illness? and he didn´t look to well in that ending, scars in the face and so on...

I don't think it has anything to do with Freddie's illness. At that time it was meant for fun. The Mircale is also a ironic title for the song. And it was an original idea.

John: "It's the one thing I wish I could do - sing."

Sadly I suspect it had a bit to do with his illness- his strength was waning so the directors had to come up with concepts e.g the train in breakthru to distract the viewer.

Actually with the video for breakthru freddie and john came up with the concept of a chugging train and calling it the miracle express Check out gvh2 miracle interviews.

You say that but what do you think was influencing Freddie and John. Comeone- the quick cuts to not show him too often- the panoramic countryside- it is obvious they were hiding his illness. With Invisible Man it was all the computer camera stuff and The Miracle featured the kids.

Next epeople will say he looked purposefully ill on TATDOOL.

How would you film it then, please tell us? 5 mins of Freddie's face singing the song? If Freddie didn't want to be filmed, why he let DoRo to film miles of footages of making of Slighlty Mad and others? It's obvious that you're overacting in your theory...

No don't be ridiculous, I wouldn't have 5 minutes of fred's face. All I'm saying is compare it to the AKOM video where there are far fewer takes of freddie- he did fairly long sequences without too many cuts. By 1989 he did not have the energy to do that so could only film small pieces at a time. And yes I do think there were quick cuts actually- look at IWIA- the first sequence is in darkness nearly, then the action is quickly broken up and the same with Breakthru- it disguised the fact, or helped to that Freddie was ill. I am not suggesting Fred didn't want to be filmed, I am saying that with his illness in mind, the directors had to seek ways of not drawing attention to it and fairly quick cutting is a fine way of doing it.

Furthermore, why may I ask does Doro make use of the same shot of Freddie punching the air twice on breakthru? Consider that if you will.

There was an earlier discussion about how high energy he was on that video- yes he seemed high energy but that's what multiple cutting and hours of work can look like.
In actual fact, you don't get a lot of movement at all on that vid- he may rock his head back and do some crab steps but he's actually stood ready in position rather than him being filmed moving about in one shot.

As for your point about IGSM-well firstly the video was filmed in monochrome so how Freddie looked was clearly an issue for the directors, as was the wild wig etc. it's wrong to pretend that it wasn't a problem.

"All I'm saying is compare it to the AKOM video where there are far fewer takes of freddie- he did fairly long sequences without too many cuts."

Compare AKOM to Bicycle Race, Under Pressure and Save Me. So what? Different directors have different styles, AKOM wasn't filmed by DoRo.

"By 1989 he did not have the energy to do that so could only film small pieces at a time."

All The Miracle videos were shoot during one or two days as well as many videos from pre-The Miracle era.

"the directors had to seek ways of not drawing attention to it"

To what? Everyone in 1989 knew that he had AIDS?

Instead of making theories - go and look at making of footages - they're in colour! Headlong was filmed in the end of 1990 and it was in colour and there is a lot of "behind scene" footages, which have been showed (in Innuendo EPK for instance) when Freddie was alive! Freddie appearead on TV few times after shooting The Miracle videos! What are you talking about?!

No, not everyone knew he was HIV positive, though they had their suspicious. Freddie told the world that he had ADIS the one day before he died.

Asterik makes some good points about how the videos are cut. It's perfectly possible that this was something the band had in mind as this is the time (The Miracle) when Freddie revealed his condition to the band.

And Serry, it's already in an interview on... Champions Of The World (I think) - Brian or Roger etc. mentions that the IGSM video was deliberately shot/edited the way it was to hide Freddie's condition. I.E. The makeup, the wig, the character, the black and white look, etc. This is definitely mentioned in an interview somewhere, if not where I've said.

I also wonder why they started using the twins for all the videos after the previous directors' they'd used.

Peace,
Adam.

Right Serry- I'll deal with this point by point- I like these debates and thanks for particpating!
When I talk about small pieces I mean sequences. eg Fred on the back of the train, Fred kneeling on the floor, not the whole video- he could only film bits at a time- one can tell that because there are lots of cuts on breakthru of him standing behind Roger Taylor. Second, you make a reasonable point about directing styles, in response I argue that IWIA was not Doro either- it was David mallet yet again ther were lots of quick cuts, in my view and many others to disguise the fact that Freddie was beginning to look ill. Furthermore on that vid he stands behind a large mic and hardly moves. That is not a conspiracy theory- it is common sense. You also talk about looking behind the scenes- I have done that for The Miracle videos and during IWIA Fred looks in discomfort and complains about the lights. On Scandal it's even worse as Fred is seen pulling his trousers up and loooking very tired- his health was an issue.

Thirdly you say that Freddie made tv appearances after The Miracle video- two that's all; and on both Brian may spoke for the most part. He gave tv interviews for the Miracle album.

Everyone didn't know that Fred had AIDS-there were rumours of course so in that climate it would surely make sense not to draw attention to the very parts of his appearance that would give it away- Freddie grew a beard to hide the gauntness and KS so he was conscious of it. It is plainly ridiculous to suggest that they treated it open house, of course not- if that was the case he would have been out all the time.

I don't konw what you're saying about the Innuendo videos- I'll give the facts; IGSM was in monochrome, TATDOOL was in monochrome, TSGMO was a compilation, Innuendo was a cartoon for goodness sake which leaves Headlong as an exception. Again the video in my view gives an impression of high energy. The same applies to Breakthru- as Laura Jackson, Queen's biographer put it;
"The restriction on movement aboard a fast moving train neatly explaine danothe rless than high energy display." The previous less than high energy display was I Want It All.
