This is a drive-by question before I have to start work in 5 minutes. So, if this has been discussed a billion times already, could we make it a billion and one?

Anyway.

Anyone know when Brian, Roger, and John finished up MIH - and where?

Thanks!

1993-1995. In Montreux (Mountain studios) and London (Townhouse), perhaps.

I think some was done at Rogers studio with John present and certainly once Brian got back from touring he worked on it in his home studio and re-worked a lot of what Roger and John had done!

Thanks, Serry and Togg.

And Serry, what's this about you retiring from Queen World...?

Okay, now this may be one of those "Who knows?" type of questions:

There is one report of Freddie's having gone to record the last verse of "A Winter's Tale" in November. I know it's all iffy.

But I guess the next question is - does anyone know when that track might have been started? And that the other three knew about it?

(I'm full of questions I know. But not in the Demetrius Barker way). ;)

Really quite hard to say. I'm pretty sure he recorded during his last visit to Montreaux. Considering Innuendo came out in what, January, I reckon that from January to November he would've had the energy to record on more than 3 occasions - but he was that ill that I'm not surprised there's only 3 'new' songs on MIH.

The verbal evidence seems to suggest that the last verse of A Winter's Tale was the last thing he did. Brian's "testimony" (I've been waiting to use that word) spells out that Mother Love was the last thing he did *with Brian* but Dave Richards indicates that the recording of the two songs actually overlapped, and that Metropolis studios was the last place he ever worked with Freddie.

It's all so patchy. I don't think we'll ever get a straight answer.

Now as to when A Winter's Tale was started... who knows! :D
Well, he wrote it in Montreaux, or about Montreaux, or was inspired by Montreaux to write it... am I even spelling it right?
Anyway, I'm guessing it was written sometime in 1991 during one of his trips to said place.

This is the kind of thing I'd like to know more about, perhaps in GH3 or whatever. I also know that because nobody likes to dig up unpleasant memories, we'll probably never get that kind of information.
Really, I do want to know more about the 'new' MIH songs because they're among my favourite Queen tracks.

Hi beautiful soup the tracks after innuendo are classed as Made in heaven sessions and were recorded from nov90 to nov91, as serry quite rightly stated they were recorded at montreux townhouse and at brians studio in 1994 for various reasons.

It wasn't A winter's tale that had the last vocals but indeed it was "mother love" which freddie had added vocals to before leaving montreux on november 9th never to return, obviously he was steadily declining in health at this point and couldn't go on.

See this is the part that is hard to be certain with. It's been said that the last recording was in Metropolis, and that the recording process of the two songs actually overlapped. How can we be totally sure?

Oh and i just remembered if you have read " mercury and me" by jim hutton it clearly states in there taht A WINTER'S TALE was written and partially recorded nov/dec1990 cause jim described in the book, i would think that the vocals were layed down at this point and the backing at a later date.

STudios: Townhouse, London
Mt Studios, Montreux

Brians Studio.

John and Roger started doing stuff late 1993 early 1994 and Brian came in in 1994 and early 1995

Great point zebonka it could be possible that these two songs have overlapped in terms of recording it's defintely a possiblity, i wish one day that there will be a book describing every queen song, where it was recorded year, date, month etc.

Just to put our interests in these songs to rest.

I do have some footage of a short interview with brian, roger and john in a studio rest room i'm not sure which studio but brian says chissik( correct me with right spelling) and they talk briefly about the tracks and the process of finishing these tracks in a strange atmosphere.

The footage by the way is from a queen fan club convention video i bought a few years ago in arecord fair and the convention is from 1994.

Maybe one day with the know how i will put on here.

well serry i will endeavour to try and somehow get this footage seen but it's on a vhs and i have no clue about transferring it so i can be seen on the internet, some advice and guidance on this would be appreciated.

Basically john looks older with less hair going bald and he says " hello my name is john deacon we are in the studio trying to record um and this is where i dry up", so not a lot said by john it's brian who mainly talks about the process of finishing off freddie's vocals and other bits and pieces.

For us - Deaky fans - this "hello my name is john deacon we are in the studio trying to record um and this is where i dry up" means more than dozen recent interviews by Bri and Rog :) Thanks!

See, I'm confused. On another thread it was said that Freddie called Dave Richards to tell him he was going to record the last verse of "A Winter's Tale." Then Richards heard a few days later that Freddie was back in England...in that Nov. 9-ish timeframe.

But that was something that someone on the board had said. Pinning down that Richards actually said it would be another matter...

The location of Brenda's interview must be Metropolis Studios, as they are in Chiswick.

Beautiful Soup, that was Mother Love, not Winters Tale. Mother Love's last bits from Freddie were indeed sang about 9 days before Freddie's death
