Dear Linda,

Yup, sometimes he is great but sometimes he really sucks, ie. We Will Rock You.
(The solo is alright, but the rest is too dumb)

hey linda, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Just because they dont love everything about someone or something doesnt mean that they arent a "real fan."
As for me, I love the solo, it gets me going. Its still amazing how he did it even though its like 6 different guitar parts

I was thinking exactly the same. If you don't like it, deal with it. Alot of members have the odd song they're not particularly keen on.... but there is no need to shun their work with aggression, dear.

Yes well the topic starter is entitled to being wrong.

Er, I meant 'having an opinion'.
Whoops!

What is so great about the WWRY guitar part? It's OK, but TIM solo ROCKS!

Hi,

Well...it's fast...but has he ever played it live?
In Studio I can also play everything that you can imagine.

What is great in this solo?
half notes up and down...that's it...like a baby does when you give a guitar to it.

Actually, I do love everything Queen did. That makes me a stepford, or something? does it? Or does it just make me a fan who really loves Queen?

I couldn't care less because at least I'm not the one who's getting hung up on the way an album was recorded, or a particular bass line that wasn't great, or a simple guitar solo that isn't AMAZING (so what? it works)

Ok, hijacking over. :P

Dear Linda,

There are people who like to analyse the stuff they hear.
Thinking about how it is produced, why does it sound good or doesn't, thinking about creativity and so on...
And there are other who don't think about it.
I am more interested in people who do care.

I think it's creative. I don't know of any other solos that sound remotely like it. It has a unique feel to it, just like most of Brian's solos.

Fast? That's not what is impressive about it. It's really not a technical masterpiece, but then again, neither are any of his other solos, so I really don't see where you are going with this point. Brian's credibility comes from his musicality, his tone, his melody, his rhythm, and his unique creativity. I think this solo fits those well.

If you want fast, might I suggest Paul Gilbert. Quite an overlooked guitarist, but the man is brilliant. He is one of the few shredders who could turn speed into something beautiful. People like Malmsteen can only do so on occasion without seeming redundant, boring, and unoriginal. Gilbert can do it every time. Eric Johnson is another virtuoso you might want to invest your time in.

However, just because Brian lacks the specific technique of these guitarists, it is much like criticizing a pole vaulter for his inability to ice skate.

Creativity can always cover for a lack of knowledge.

How could he have played it live? Queen haven't toured since 1986 and this song was written (presumably) in 88 or 89. Although I would like them to play it on the Q + PR tour.

The solo fits the song, and as with the majoraty of his solos no one would remember of doing it that way!
You may not like it, but could you think of a better solo for that song after you hear this one?

Take care

Brian does scales in other solos, too (BoRhap and A Kind of Magic, for example) - but I think they're always appropriate for the piece.

"In Studio I can also play everything that you can imagine."

Ok then.
1). Go to your studio.
2). Record Pagnini's 5th Caprice for me.
3). Upload it here.

I can't play Pagnini's 5th Caprice, but I'm not saying you can't - if you're going to crap on something with such temerity, then you might as well back it up!

It works for me but you're entitled to your opinion.
It isn't overly melodic but to me it creates a certain tension within the music.
BTW who said it was fast? It isn't particularly fast. If you need to use studio trickery to play this then you need to practice.

Since this statement was put here with the sole purpose of getting people to fire back at you, I'm with Linda.

Had you written a balanced critique then I would have given it more time, however your opinion is worthless if unless you back it up. Making a statement just to get folk annoyed is pathetic.

Nobody says you have to like everything he does, but it would be nice if you could voice your views in a more constructive way.

But in this instance I think Linda reacted in just the way you wanted, Oh and BTW he played it live in the studio, no tricks.
