Hi everybody,

there`s been lots of threads in the last weeks stating things like "what Queen fans want" or "next releases". In my opinion the only thing we will get will be Greatest Video 3 this winter or Spring 2007. Just because this release will probably paying out it`s producing. Queen Production is a company. And as a company you have to make profits. I personally think that QP don`t have that much money as we think. You can`t compare QP with the fortune that Roger or Brian got. They`re only supervisors in the producing process. I think QP is really out of money. Why did they release only 1 DVD of the recent tour although they had enough material for 2 DVD`s ?
Maybe too expensive ?! Except for GVH2 they did really promotional things although it was just in Great Britain. The current isn`t sold out and they re-release their back cataloque every 2nd year. This crappy ANATO Cd/DVD package is just a clever way to make money. They had the audio already released in 2002 with the DVD-A of ANATO and so they did some pityful little videos accompaning the songs. Waste of money, I think. They will never release Hammersmith 1979 or Earls Court 1977 because only die-hard Queen fans would buy these things. I wont pay out.
So, time to speak that out of my heart.

cheers

"And as a company you have to make profits."

The best to way to make profits - release something what people want to and will to buy. Yes, I agree - it's GVH3. But a lot of people will buy some old Queen shows too. It's a history of rock music.

"Why did they release only 1 DVD of the recent tour although they had enough material for 2 DVD`s? Maybe too expensive?!"

Vice versa - too cheap! They knew that it won't be selling as well good as products with Freddie (that's reality, guys), so they had to make low price for their product - only way - release DVD with 1 disk.

"This crappy ANATO Cd/DVD package is just a clever way to make money."

How? If it wasn't sell out very good - how can you make profits?!

QPL only exists in order to generate the income that you say "aminly goes to the band members". It's not SUPPOSED to make a profit as such - any money made gets split four ways and handed out.

But, they have to speculate to accumulate, although I expect there's always someone else to cover some production costs (EMI/Phil McIntyre/Tribecca, etc)

But if you`re not making money then no future projects will ve realised. The tour isn`t soled out, the dvd`s aren`t selling. So why release anything more ? Only for the sake of the Queen fans ?!

cheers

My friends, have you ever seen a DVD by the metal band Manowar?
These guys don`t have a 1/100 of Queen`s revenues, but their series of "Hell on Earth" are being considered the best music DVD`s avaiable, both by fans and the press!

They record every single concert of their tour and then they do a documentary about it. Four or five cameras for the small shows are enough, and let me tell you that they really kiks some serious buts!

By definition Queen can outsell any metal band only with the die hard fans, but how about they put their mouth where their money is?- I mean, don´t they like all their output? Or are they just a singles band?
This is what they have to define, because Brian says he`s proud of their stuff, but reality is a bit diferent.

A good concert is allways a good concert, and i think that is a mistake to base their concerts only with WATC or WWRY, because people are fed up with these songs! Nowadays people don`t buy the DVD to see them play WATC, guive us something new, promote it the right way and it will sell.

Take care

Firstly, well done on the English. Your post is better than most Brits can manage on here.

What will sell will always win out. However, I think the low production cost and profit margin on DVD means we will see these. My girlfriend just bought a Damned dvd. How huge is their fan base? Not very, I wager.

I'm buying a Who DVD of some gigs from their Tommy tour of the early 90's. Quite a limited market, I'd say.

It will take time, but it will happen.

Cheers

Paul

Thanks ok.computer for your kind words.
I don`t want to complain or whining about what happened to the best band that has ever been. But I get annoyed with all this "new" stuff that emerges from QP. Best example is the re-release of their entire back catalogue over here in Germany. What really upset me is the fact that QP only bring out little piece and bits of their massive vault. Wembley DVD was perfect, but Bowl really sucked according to its containing bonus stuff. Some fans suggested to bring out 3 DVD sets, maybe of the Crazy Tour. That would be awesome. It seems to me that QP only wants to satify our hunger by giving us one "real suprising" thing per DVD. (Bowl: Freddies interview) (Sheffield: nothing) (ANATO Collectors edition: God save...in DTS). What a pile of s... .
The DVD`s brought out by Zeppelin or Floyd are fantastic. And Pink Floyd are planning to release their 1994 Earls Court concert this autuum. Much more worth buying that Sheffield 2005 in my opinion. Brian will manage to bring out this "bits" `til he drop and then nobody else would care about Stuttgart 1984 or Hyde Park 1976.
Sorry if it`s sounds to morbid.

cheers

Queen Productions isn't releasing these disks by theirselves. The record company do. Hence Queen being signed to EMI and Hollywood Records. If Queen were unsigned or doing the independent thing then yes your point will be valid.

If anythinbg Queen prod just decides which item they want released. Maybe set it up with any alterations oir improvement and let the record company release and distribute it. I doubt money on Queen Prods part is anything to worry about.

What? have you seen it? it's one of the best live concerts on film ever, how is it worse than any other Queen DVD?

I smell a Q+PR basher!

Sorry Togg but Sheffield is far beyond any of the concerts i`ve seen. The sound is weak, as is the stage rig. Sorry. I really appreciate Queen going on Tour again but that the result is such a poor DVD is really a pity. And I think that most fans would love to have a 70s concert instead. I`ve seen both, Sheffield and Floyds Pulse VHS. And Pink Floyds concert is much more watchable. It`s a concert in all respects.
My opinion. But the thread above means that it`s not about another Q+PR smashing.
I just wanted to state that I think that QP is doing the wrong thing by presenting just little bits of the "treasures" and releasing stuff with a quality that is far from perfect. What I don`t understand

cheers
