On his website today, Brian May talks about the guy who is selling the Pick Brian gave him, on Ebay. It's a great read and gives good insight to what is going through the mind of a performer in front of an audience. I never gave it much thought, but I can see how distracting these things can be, particularly one like this. Signs that is. Did this guy think he was going to make a fortune with this pick? I can't understand myself how a rational person can pay big money for a show and then spend two hours obsessing about a coin.
Check it out. It's also quite funny.

I find it interesting that people would actually yell out, "Give me your pick!" I could see where that would be ever so slightly annoying if you were playing a guitar solo in front of thousands of people. Mainly, because of the awesome seats we had, I didn't have this problem, but there were a couple of times where I wanted to tell people to shut the hell up during the shows.

The pick guy is a complete arse, IMHO, but how many people on QZ collect Queen related artifacts?
Each collected item has a history and some items have an equally or more sordid history.
Can you imagine the person who wanted Freddie's death certificate?
I like that Brian pointed out how much this guy detracted from the concert experience of the musician and the others attending the concert.
I still think the guy was completely mercenary in his procurement of the guitar pick to turn around and sell it.
To me the guy is no different than a beggar.
Brian should have given him a buck and told him to f**k off.

because he uses the "six pence" as a "pick". To refer to it simply as a six pence would probably not be descriptive enough to your average person who doesn't know Brian uses a six pence as a pick and since it has very little to do with the point that Brian is trying to make it's easier to just call it a pick.

I wonder what the sign said that this guy was holding? It's an interesting write up that Brian put together and I do agree that people like that are very selfish and annoying when there are thousands of people around him who would probably love to get a six pence/pick from Brian but just realize how annoying they would end up being to ask in such a way.

Apparently it said, "May I have a six-pence?
THen later after Brian took it the stage guys changed it to ,"May I have a pay raise?"

That guy... what a jerk.

some useless info for ya now. A pick can also be made for metal or copper too - I know I used to use them before I went back to the traditional pick (or plectrum to give it its correct title). Actually a pick can be anything at all so long as it does the trick - ie, "pick" the strings. In the past Ive used a small bottle opener (flat ones that is!!) and the ends off old wooden clothes pegs!!! Only when I couldnt find any normal picks though!!

LINK, MAN! Post the link! Maybe I'm just lazy, but carpal tunnel syndrome is no laughing matter - I've gotta use my mouse sparingly, and don't want to search for half an hour for this article. Instead, I'll refresh this thread every 30 seconds and stare at the screen until the link is posted.

This prick has read what Brian wrote and still doesn't get it - mercenary fuck. I would personally hire snipers with paintball rifles to peg anyone in the audience who acted inappropriately - signs, throwing shit, yelling to the performers. They'd all get a big welt right in the forehead and a bounce from Security.

Hmm, now the guy's updated his auction to say how pleased he is that Brian's post has proved the authenticity of his auction!

Hmm that looks like a real six pence in the picture.. I'd always assumed the six pences Brian uses nowadays (or at least the ones he's prepared to give away to people) were Brian May ones... Does he have a huge stockpile of original six pences or something?
