I'm off to Detroit in June for a month. The only problem I have is that I'm flying from Manchester to Philadelphia landing at Terminal A my connecting flight to Detroit Wayne County is at Terminal F. I have an hour and a half to clear customs.

This is my first time in the US how long will it take to clear customs? I have heard all sorts of horrible things about Philly Airport. Is an hour and half enough? I booked it through Expedia and the carrier is US Airlines.

Anyone shed any light on this?

Cheers.

last time (2003/2002) it took about 20 min, give or take a few min, depending on how many people are in front of you, even when there is a lot of people there is is always a good amount of people who are working, so I would not worry too much.
Even less time since philly airport is much smaller then Atlanta and Chicago.

PHL is not that bad of a place. They have done a few nice things for patrons over the last few years. I haven't actually flew since '94, so I really wouldn't know much about the process of getting though that airport.

Philly represent!

When I flew in from Mexico, the customs line wasn't entirely long; I'd say 20 minutes is a good approximation. You should have enough time, though it might depend on when you're flying in.

After reading a few reviews here (http://www.airlinequality.com/Airports/Airport_forum/phl.htm), I would like to apologize ahead of time for the potential rudeness that you may face. It seems that you may face the results of underpaid/overworked union members.

If you have time between customs and check in for your Detroit leg, grab an Italian hoagie or cheese steak. Just a little local flavor.

Good luck

Thank you everyone. You know that was the one thing I was scared about missing my connecting flight.

Now the next dillema how the fuck do I keep my self entertained on a transatlantic flight? I can't sleep on planes and the longest I've been on a plane was two weeks ago 2 and a half hours from Portugal. By an hour I was tearing my hair out.

I would recommend bringing an iPod or some portable music thing. That usually works for me.

Or a book. I actually finished a whole Douglas Adams book on a plane ride.

In most cases, they'll hold your connecting flight for you. They don't want you to miss your flight bc then they have to deal with an angry paying passenger. You'll be fine just like everyone here said.

As far as keeping yourself entertained...I hear you on this. I am so bad about trips. If the plane ride is more than 2 hours I get so bored. If I were you, I'd take a Tylenol PM and sleep the whole way. I think you've got a what...8 hour flight? Bring magazines, books, mp3 player, etc. Also since it's an international flight, you should be able to drink for free. At least that is Delta's policy. Drink up and have fun!
