I know it's an old topic, but I wanted to read a fresh list of bands that Queen fans find similar to Queen. There can be only one, we all know that, but what other acts sound Queen like in one way or another? Please answer only from your opinion and not what you have heard. In other words, none of this dumbass, "The Darkness" crap unless you have heard them. The Queen comparisons, from what I have heard, are way off base.

Anyways, who would you think has Queenisms in their sound? My list would be:

Def Leppard
Styx
The Beatles(even though they came before Queen)
Rufus Wainright
ELO
Garbage(although I am not sure why, just seems so)
Living Colour
U2
David Bowie
Guns N' Roses(in a small way only)
Duran Duran

That's about it that I can think of. Def Leppard seems to be the closest Queen-like act out there because of their heavy production emphasis, wall like guitar sound and architecture, and vocal heavy style.

I'm sure someone can scrounge up a list of Queen cover bands...

Brian's solo albums are a lot like Queen, only (imo) better.

John hated HS. Fred's fave singer was not PR. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' Witness testimonies are often inaccurate. Scotland's not in England. 'Bo Rhap' hasn't got 180 voices.

seriously, has anyone here listened to English Country Garden and Blind Man from One Way Ticket...? Both those songs absolutely reek of Queen.

They were a rock group. Just because they were black doesn't make them an R&B group..;-P

Electric 7, pick up Living Colour's second album, Time's Up. It's an amazing album and at least 10 years before it's time. Drummer Will Calhoun's playing is like the Hammer of the Gods and Solace of You is still one of my all time favourite tunes! Seriously, it is a GREAT album and not hip hop!!!

I second that. When I saw the subject title, they were going to be my input. They don't directly sound like Queen (in a way that some people think The Darkness do) but more as a band, and a class live act, the way they produce their music (very grand, creative, different genres, yet sounding like themselves at the same time). Cracking vocals, brilliant musicians etc.

Best Of Me sounds very 'Tie Your Mother Down'-ish at its opening

The Darkness, although they seem to imitate Queen in certain aspects. Not really much of a fan.

Well, Queen sounds like Beach Boys, in terms of vocal harmonies, or Crosby Stills Nash.

Check 1971 Beach Boys Sunflower, or Carl and The Passions by the same Beach band.

the difference is that Beach Boys or C.S.N did their harmonies live as well as the studio

I can't believe no-one has mentioned Extreme.

Just listen to the '3rd' side of III Sides to Every Story, the production is just like classic Queen.
