"Deacon is the only member of Queen never to sing any lead vocals on any of their tracks, even admitting in interviews that he was incapable of competing with the three strong vocalists in the group. John Deacon was never credited with doing backing vocals on albums yet in interviews(for instance, an interview with former Queen's producer, Roy Thomas Baker) it was said that he sung backing vocals for the less operatic harmonies eg. Tie Your Mother Down, Liar, In The Lap Of The Gods....Revisited and some parts of Somebody To Love.[citation needed] John Deacon though definitely did sing backing vocals live as four voices were needed to get the effect of the numerous voices on the album recordings.[citation needed] It is quite obvious though that his mic was lower than the others as his voice is quite hard to distinguish at times, though there have been occasions (Earls Court 77) when his mic was turned up louder than Brian May's and Roger Taylor's by accident. John also sang into Freddie Mercury's mic during the middle bridge of Liar when it was performed live as a testimant to the film clip in which he does the same thing."

I have heard his voice before in those two occations actually!!!! John you should sing more often MAN! :P

No One But You was a good opitunity, I would of liked to see him sing a few lines with Brian and Roger, would of been interesting....

I guess people will start disagreeing here, was John's voice THAT bad? Oh come on!

Just for the record, I didn't write that Wikipedia article :) (sometimes I wish I had).

For what I've heard, his voice is "not bad", but still I prefer 'No One But You' sung by two people who not only are "not bad", but they're "very good" singers.

John hated HS. Fred's fave singer was not PR. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' Witness testimonies are often inaccurate. Scotland's not in England. 'Bo Rhap' hasn't got 180 voices.

True yeah, but wouldn't you or anyone else like to hear John in some of the Queen songs?

Yes but only if it's worth it. Giving him a verse of 'No One But You' would be like saying "let's give Roger the piano parts because we want to see him doing it". Waste of time...

It'd be interesting to say the least.

I've heard his voice and it just sounds like he's got the same problem as a lot of people (myself included nominally) - his singing voice is basically like his 'talking' voice. He's got good pitch (probably because he's a good musician) but it just doesn't 'sound' that nice.

Who knows if he'd have been a better singer if he put as much effort into it as he did with bass.

I don't think a verse of No One But You would've been a bad thing... the melody could've been adjusted slightly if he had trouble getting as high as Brian or Roger (not that the first verse has any hard-to-reach-notes) but anyway!

John needs to say his part in No One But You just like Brian and Roger did....

Okay, his little part was playing the bass, but hey at least one line wouldn't hurt anyone, right? Okay... *waits for the tomatos to come at me* :P

Maybe it was his choice due to lack of confidence in his voice.

Backing vocals for Tie Your Mother Down, Liar, In The Lap Of The Gods....Revisited and Somebody To Love. Especially STL because I can hear all of there voices on that track, yes including JOHN. Also it's so obvious that John is singing in the video for "Liar" which I can hear clearly too. Doesn't anyone else hear this?

John should have sung his own songs, like Brian and Roger did in the early days.

No such thing!

True, you can be an awful, awful singer, but the fact remains that if you can utter a noise with your mouth, then you are actually making a musical note (no matter how bad it might sound) and thus you can sing.

Anyway, the problem wasn't with his ability to hit notes. He had good pitch, he wasn't usually off key or anything. I just don't think he liked the sound of his voice.

Yeah I heard him singing in STL, and his voice isn't bad, but not as good as Roger's or Brian's...
Anyway I'm not sure that he would sing with a better voice, he's just too shy :)
