Interesting, good, talented, and the high level of talent is dominated severely by the massivley higher level of bullshit represented by your Brian May comparison. This guy played around well with a famous song that I can't label nor tell what it is an who wrote it. Brian, among other acheivements took a national anthem(God Save The Queen), and made the perfect recording of it, taking it further than it could have ever gotten.

This guy didn't come near that, so how is he possibly supposed to cover the other 98%(at least) of Brian's musical creative catalogue and achieve a even a representation of the quality level Brian has built on? In otherwords... quit dreaming, quit promoting your friend, or else, you haven't got a clue. Whichever fits.

Brian May, for me, is a guitarist who potentially more talented players have no chance in hell of equaling simply out of the mortality of 99.9% of all guitars, compared to the(to quote Highlander) "There can be only one!" perfection of the Red Special? The answer simplyl... Nobody has a chance!

Nice thought, however out of reality the comparison may be. I'm sure at least the guys mom and dad might agree with you.

In reality this guy has nothing to do with Brian May -

HOWEVER, Brian May viewed this video and wrote a stellar little review of it at his site. So if it's good enough for Brian, it should be good enough for his fans; at the very least show a little respect for the guy, anyway. Absolutely no need to get worked up over this.

Of course!

The canon is great, the guy is great.

But he's not the "new brian may" because this has nothing to do with him!

To be honest though... in Brian's soapbox, I think he's selling himself short. I reckon he could do the song justice. Sweep picking does not a guitarist make, I would love to hear the Red Special on this song.

why were the two posters at the top so scathing. bloody hell, someone hears something they like, and tells other people on a PUBLIC FORUM to go and check it out cos they think they are the new brian may, and they get a bollocking. it not on.

mc7t, i understand your enthusiasm about this boy, he is amazing. although the comparison to brian may is not really justified in my oppinion as their playing styles are too different. this boy is in the school of shred, whereas our brian is more melodic in his feel of the guitar.

and to you Ameriqueen, you stop bloody well dreaming! brian is good yes, we all agree with you. however, because brian arranged god save the queen, it does not make him the best. because he made his own guitar, that does not make him the best at playing the guitar. you are the deluded one.

all mc7t was saying was that this boy was good, and you go and rip him apart, why? becuase you feel you have to jump to the defence of your beloved brian. get a life, there are other guitarists out there which can do things brian can only dream of. this boy is one of them.

"there are other guitarists out there which can do things brian can only dream of. this boy is one of them."

Hahaha, this is cute...

Look - sweep picking is a funny thing. I found that the other night, just from watching 5 very short instructional videos, I was picking up the idea after *years* of trying to figure it out on my own. Fun and exciting as it was to see this stuff suddenly happen right in front of me, I don't want to pursue it further, it's not a sound that pleases me.

The kid doesn't do anything 'we can only dream of'. Guitar is about sitting down and fucking playing until you can do it.
The important thing is not the tricks you can do anyway, it's about being happy with your playing.

Zebonka12, i'm sorry, i know i may have gone a bit overboard with that comment. but what Ameriqueen was insinuating was incredible, that brian was way better than anybody on the planet, and that nobody could ever touch him.

although, i have to say that i disqualified that comment when i said that they are far too different in their appraoches to be compared...and also, brian can do things that this boy can't do. (we haven't heard that much from this boy, so that is assuming everything on the video is all he can do).

he doesn't do things brian can only dream of, he does things brian would have to sit down and study a long time before being able to do them.

Thanks for the support guys & gals....I really didn't mean to offend anyone (honest!).
Let's hope we hear more from this guy...He's playing a real instrument (as opposed to samples)..and in this day, it's great to see new talent.
I'd never knock Bri...I've been a fan for 22 years now, so it's cool to know that he has seen this guy too.
Thanks again x

I am a advanced guitarist in the fact that I can play in a style all to myself, or I can mimic the likes of Brian, Hendrix, SRV, Clapton, Malmsteen (insert token guitar god here)....

so I feel qualified to make this statement.

Brian May can play anything that he hears in his head. Not only can he play it, but he can articulate to other band members an idea... a blank canvas if you will.. that essentially leads to a masterpiece of a song.

I assure you, technique wise... I can do things that Brian May cannot do... I can sweep with the best of them, and I have just completed 6 months of lessons with a classical guitarist that has played on stage with the likes of Jose Feliciano and Segovia. I can tap 64th notes at 220 bpm, all in time, all clean, using 7 of my 10 fingers.

But before you think I am preaching self rightiousness on guitar.... let me tell you why Brian is in a league of his own.

While I currently can imitate any music piece set in front of me, I cannot always inovate.

Meaning... I can grab a issue of Guitar One, and Guitar Techniques and through years of playing, and a almost photogenic memory, I can "mimic" what I am seeing almost note for note...

However, I cannot always play what is in my heart or in my head.

I feel, no, I know that Brian May can play, on demand whatever he feels....

I am still learning how to do that, and I am known in my hometown as a "fantastic guitarist".

Brian May is world reknown.... so to me, he's better than fantastic. I'm fantastic. Brian is better.

Heh, fair enough.

Scott_Mercury, I feel you pretty much hit the nail on the head there. Us guitarists can learn to 'middly middly' till we're red in the face, but I feel that we miss the point unless we can have some of the 'feel' that people like Gilmour, Hendrix... and of course, Brian May, can express.

Hahah yeah look - it's very easy to sound bigheaded when you basically spiel about what you can do on guitar... I won't speak for Scott_Mercury but basically - don't take it that way, he's just trying to get his point across.

My own view is (after playing guitar so long) is that sweep picking is a total waste of time. I was astonished to learn that it wasn't a question of talent so much as just sitting down and learning how to do it, but when I started trying it seriously, I found I sounded like *someone else*. I didn't like it at all. Sweep picking doesn't allow for much expression or individuality.
Though I really dig very-fast alternate picking. I don't know why, it's just fun.

Basically... to each their own, guitar really is about enjoying one's self, I've come to realise.
