Finally.

Germany is in the grip of football. There is no shop window not decorated with footballs and no TV commercial that does not refer to the world cup.

The country is property of MacDonalds, Hyunday and Budweiser, the main sponsors. No German beer is allowed near the stadiums and German buses must be re-labelled to Hyunday. Luckily, the FIFA lost a court case trying to forbid Germans to use the word "Weltmeisterschaft" (world championship).
But 4 hours from now, when the the opening match starts, all irritations will be forgotten: the renaming of our stadiums, the ticketing (MacDonald still holds tens of thousands of tickets while fans have no chance to get one), the quarrels in the German football association and national team.

Michael Ballack's injury is top news on all TV channels and the temperatures rose in two days to normal summer values, so that teams from more southern parts of the world won't be at disadvantage.

4 hours from now hell will break lose. I hope everybody enjoys it.

Oh crap, now I have to find something to do for the next month that avoids football.

I hate the world cup, so off to listen to some long forgotten albums!

Without Ballack it might be tricky for Germany to go further than quarter finals... He IS the only hope, really IMO... Podolsky (in which team should he really play, heh ;) )had a pretty bad season, Klose (another Pole, bloody hell ;) ) had a good one but he needs some support from midfield... And without Ballack...
I really like the winger, what's his face... Schweinsteiger or something like taht. He's still young, he's got some nice technique and he's very quick... He is a dangerous player...

I am waiting for today's Poland game- very important, we HAVE TO win that one. Next- and hopefully it won't rain this time ;) - we paly the hosts and than probably the ione that will decide whether we go furthjer or not- a game with Costa Rica...
For one- the goalkeeper that conceded a goal from another goalkeeper won't be playing, so that's cool :) Zurawski, man from celtic is in pretty good shape, Smolarek is getting better and he showed in Dortmund what a good player he is... Krzynowek had a miserable season in Leverkusen, but if he wants to go somewhere else- what a better place to advertise himself is there? And than there is Szymek from Trabzonsport (Turkey) who had an excellent season and is probably Poland's most influential player... I really think we should go to the second round, probably as second (I really don't think we'll win against hosts, although I'd be delighted if that happened) and than PROBABLY we'll meet England in the second round and... have the revange!!! There will be no more stupid dancing, Mister Crouch ;)

I honestly can't wait. I am going to watch ALL the games- I quit my job and decided to look for one after it's all over (and no- that's not the reason why I quit it ;) )

I expect any of the African teams to give a great performance as they always come as underdogs, but surprise with their skills. Sadly they haven't been lucky enough to make it past quarter finals.

I'll be supporting Ghana.

Of course, Brasil is the huge favorite and all eyes are on Ronaldinho. Ronaldo on the other hand has not been as good as he once was, and I have the feeling he will be a dissapointment, and that might hurt his team.

Nevertheless, if Brasil allows all this overhype to get to their heads they might even end up being eliminated on the first round. Consider that the same thing happened to Argetina and France in 2002.

No revenge, Fenderek! Just another defeat.

Roll on an hour, leaving work in 25 mins to get to the pub.
Tomorrow is of course more important for me!

I'm Colombian and I'm dissapointed this will be our second World Cup in a row where we fail to qualify.

I wish the best of luck to all the teams, including those that eliminated us.
