By signing a record deal, one is "selling out." By performing large venues and selling merchandise, one is "selling out." By doing anything that pretty much involves a profit, one is "selling out." There's nothing wrong with this and people tend to put too much emphasis on it. It only really matters (in my opinion) if creative control is sacrificed. If creative control is still intact and present within the band, I don't really care what happens to the music after that.

Creativity can always cover for a lack of knowledge.

They nipped this in the bud back in 1967 with "The Who Sell Out". Mighty fine album, if you ask me.

So what if The Who are in more commercials? It's Townshend's music, he can do with it what he pleases. Personally, my day brightens a bit if I hear a Who song on TV, and it doesn't matter to me if it's selling Nissans or Viagra. In fact, it might be counterproductive for the ad: I have no desire to rush out and buy the product, but it DOES make me listen to the Who song in question.

Slightly on topic, but has anyone heard the new Who single? Sounds fucking good. Can't wait to see them on 9/12 in Philly. Row 12 floor seats, baby!

New Who single?!?!? WHERE!?! I'm there dude!!!

And hey - I hope they continue selling out, everytime I hear their music on an ad it gives me a little false hope that music isn't as dead as I thought it was.

Ah yes, the new album and tour. I'm there. Ringo's kid is playing drums and Pete's kid is playing rhythm. How cool is that?

It's actually Pete's brother, Simon, on rhythm.

Ah, I didn't know that. They said on the radio it was his kid so we were both misinformed.

I was a little shocked to hear he had a kid, so there ya go.

Who's playing bass?

damn I still haven't heard this. I can't wait.

I was watching a current affairs program on TV a few weeks back and they had nice footage of the Leeds show they did last month - MAN I wish I'd been taping it because I can't find it anywhere else.

Seriously, The Who... good ol' Townshend still does the windmill. Fan-tastic.

I saw them at the O2 Leeds Festival, they were amazing.

Won't Get Fooled Again was also used by the BBC for the World Cup advert.

MAGIC BUS is also used on some SUV commerical...

I like the exposure these groups get through these commericals... But IMO it doesnt do them justice at all...
It does make me want to go in the other room and put on one of their records though...
But i wish that music stations on TV would play this stuff as much as the commericals did.
