In today soapbopx Brian explained the simple reason. There isn't any video footage. Complete concert was covered with cameras, but that footage was only projected on a video wall, nothing was recorded....

That's a real shame. :(

That is a real shame. Of all the concerts they did and the last one can't be released.

That's awful.

Oh Christ. There are already TWO concerts from the Magic Tour which have been released. Budapest will be released on DVD at some point, too. You don't honestly want yet ANOTHER DVD with EXACTLY the same tracklist? It would NEVER sell.

A good bootleg video is around. Be grateful THAT is available.

So much for the so called collectors who can swear there is somebody somewhere with professional footage of that concert!

"I´ve seen that footage..."

Who´s lying?- QP or the collectors?

It´s a pitty that this concert was never recorded. I watched again the knebworth documentary, and this is what we have:

-Queen in the Helicopter going to Knebworth;
-Queen arriving at Knebworth;
-Backstage;
-Queen going to the stage (footage that was being shown in the big screens too)
-The concert was parcially filmed from the helicopter.
-During Radio GaGa i spoted 3 diferent cameras if i´m correct(The one wich recorded "Is this the world we created" that slowly started filming the audience, and two more filming strictly the audience).

this is what Doro may have (according to their footage).

-The stage being built (like in wembley);
-Traffic jam, when people started to arrive at the venue;
-People arriving at the venue until the venue is filled up;

Now, something is very clear for me:

Doro filmed everything they needed for the documentary, except Queen on stage. Why?- Because they thought that the Queen crew were filming the concert, so later they could use that footage that never happened.

The only hope we have is that Doro have some sense of hystory, and among the cameras maybe there was at least one camera close to the stage shooting Queen. I know this is against all odds but it´s the only possibility there is of the existance of minimum footage of the concert.

And let´s hope that they haven´t erased the tapes yet!!!

Take care

The simple reason is that they had PLENTY of footage from other shows on the tour - Budapest, Wembley, Mannheim etc.

They had no idea that it would be Queen's last show and, therefore, the concert was nothing out of the ordinary at the time. They used the opportunity to shoot there to concentrate on stuff that they presumably hadn't had time for at other stops on the tour.

Hmmm. An interesting and unfortunate development.
Though it contradicts something Brian said a couple of years ago, I'm not at all surprised - he must have come across new information I suppose.

A while back, the understanding was that while footage had been taped, it was purely what was shown on the big screen, as edited on the day - raw stuff from each camera was not stored.
I guess they've learned otherwise.

One should be grateful we have video of it at all, anyway, since we've got bugger all in the way of good stuff of Freddie's last live performance.

Brian now repeated exactly what he said 3-4 years ago. There is no news in that. People will come back in three months time and request Knebworth to be released on DVD - no news in that either.

Mannheim wasn't shot by QP. It was done by a tv-station, ZDF, I think.

I don't understand at all people saying how this concert was "nothing out of the ordinary". Weren't there 200 FREAKIN' thousand people there or so?!! Whatever it was when in the hell have they ever played to such a large crowed?! It was the last concert of the tour of them playing to what...their biggest audience EVER?! Isn't that reason enough to film something when you already have the FREAKIN' cameras there ANYWAY?! I really don't know what to think. I also recall Brian May saying that it or some WAS filmed but that it wasn't filmed well because it was just for the screens...I don't know.

Try re-reading Benn's statement where he says it was "nothing out of the ordinary AT THE TIME". It was their final performance of the tour, but it's likely no one thought anything else of it because there was still the possibility that Queen would tour again.

Sadly it is no surprise if there's really no "quality" footage, apart from the DoRo-Stuff we know.

Morumbi, which was a record breaking audience (I like the way this sounds: the biggest paying audience in the history of Rock music - at least at the time) was only filmed by a local TV station, and what has become public is only mediocre.

MSG was always the place cited when one was talking about a "band really making it", but no proper recording of a Queen-show, despite the 10 shows there.

The same with the Forum, LA. Brian often talked about having seen Led Zep there in the early 70's, and thinking "if we ever get to play here"... and they sold out the Forum 12 times from 1977 to 1982.

On the other hand, Led Zep had to incorporate bootleg footage to get a decent and fitting proportion of their shows in Knebworth on the "DVD". They did it well, a great DVD, so perhaps there is a chance to see at least parts of the show on a forthcoming release.

This concert deserves to be somehow represented on a Live-DVD. Looking at the "Live Magic"-pic of Knebworth is still fascinating. And all the stories about the roar when Bri hit the first chords of "One Vision", make it even more desirable to see at least some parts of it.

Let's hope for some bonus footage when Budapest gets a proper release. And before that, a 70's show, please.

At least was their last Magic gig and the CAMERAS WERE ROLLING! This is beyhond comprehension!! Nobody cared to put a tape into the cameras or the screen.

This was an extra show, and was their biggest U.K audience (oficial) ever. But there are unoficial sources (newspapers and Brian May) who can swear that there were 300.000 people in there, because it appears that there wasn´t ticket control (?).

Acording to Brian this was their biggest concert ever.

The only possibility is this:

For me it´s hard to believe that there wasn´t at least a tape into the mixing desk that would send the signal to the big screen.

Acording to some people at this forum, there are collectors who claim to have the professional shooting of Knebworth ( i remember someone saying that he has seen it with his own eys. My question is:

Is it possible that the tape (in case there is one) wich has recorded the show (from the big screen signa) was indeed sold to private collectors?

Is anyone aware if there is indeed one professional shooting among the collectors as they claim?

Take care

My hopes are the same.
However, this topic seems is rather controversial in that no one seems to know for sure what was or was not filmed.
I'm hoping as you are there is some kind of footage around of it.
Id take Budapest also, i know that theres backstage things on MAGIC YEARS (which ive gotta get my hands on at some point) but thats another story...

I find it somewhat hard to believe there was not atleast SOMETHING actually recorded for posterity.

But thinking about all this makes me rather sad. I almost cried reading how the whole crowd of 200 thousand + people cheering as Bri came out. I only wish i was around then to have seen them in their prime. Makes me feel very nostalgic...
Even if they could get some bootleg, i think itd be good even for Brian and Roger to have something on film to commemorate their achievement sumed up in that final show.

I still think the footage from the big screens exists!! You have to watch the freddie inserts on the Tribute dvd. There are various shots on there that come from the big screen in Knebworth. For example freddie greeting the audience in armystyle after Bohemian Rhapsody.(I think it is in the third insert)
There is also great footage from GSTQ available from Knebworth.Also from the big screen.
