There's at least 3 on the big Solo Collection box:
Let's Turn It On
La Japonaise
The Golden Boy

But as for Queen tracks, I'm afraid Play the Game is the purest of them. There are some with fewer instruments of course.

Yes, at the moment, PTG is the most isolated vocal, and Love Of My Life isn't bad, but does have some instruments on the vocal track. Unfortunately, that's about all there is, until another 5.1 mix of an album comes along, although the start of Rock It (the Freddie part) can be stripped down to almost pure vocal, and the rest of the track is quite interesting to hear, with the centre channel isolated. This is just vocals, drums and lead guitar, and the bass can just be heard in the background in places, because I couldn't be arsed to filter it out:-

By the way, I did do a full Fickle Mix of Rock It, which can be found somewhere on here, if it's not been deleted.

Pardon? If I understand what you're asking, the tracks from DVD-A or DVD 5.1 mixes can be ripped and separated with a program called DVD Audio Extractor. It isn't free (unless you know where to go), but you can get a 30 day free trial.

But the risult it's no clear...

Adobe Audition (which I believe used to be Cool Edit) has a Vocal Remove tool, but it doesn't work the other way round (to remove the instruments and leave the vocal). You could fiddle about using an instrumental version, inverting the phase and mixing it with the vocal version. This sometimes makes the instruments 'disappear' and leaves the vocal, but you have to be extremely precise, and the waveforms of both versions have to match exactly for it to work, so more often than not, it doesn't. Unfortunately, to get it anywhere near perfect, you need the original master tapes to work from, and even then it's not always perfect, as can be heard in the first part of Rock It, where you can still hear the bass in the background.

The only way we (fans) can do it is with DVD Audio Extractor, if the vocal track has already been isolated in the 5.1 mix.

It would be a neat experiment, though totally tasteless, to find all 800 phenomes needed to build a robot Freddie voice.

Otherwise there are many isolated snippets, and cataloguing them must be some fan's dream...

I know what you mean. That would be great to hear some more freddie accapella queen tracks. On the game dvd, Freddie's vocal on sail away sweet sister on the middle 8 is accapella, but right after it, the guitar comes in. Hope that helps for you.

Tut tut Fickle. You should've been telling him there IS a little way to get a decent result in retrieving vocals - Vocal Channel Extractor.

This CAN work very, very well. BUT... you need to spend time with it to get the best result.

Which version is that on, Adam? I don't recall seeing it on Audition 1.5.

It's definitely there. Don't you remember asking me to do some work with it and I passed on the result?

There's Vocal Remove (which leaves the instruments, not the vocal) Acappella, Amplify Vocals 6dB, Lift Vocals 10dB, but nothing named Vocal Channel Extractor. None of the above seem to work very well. Perhaps you created a setting and saved it as Vocal Channel Extractor? When I try to do it, it just sounds like the vocals are being sung into a toilet bowl.

Yeah can you go into this in a little more detail? I know the default settings basically produce warbling backgrounds and clear vocals... I'm not looking for a direct song / setting list (though if you had one :) ...), more like techniques you've used that work.

Like I said before, you have to play with this stuff to get the result you want. It's your path of discovery, not mine...
