Sorry everyone on QZ, this is boring, I know it is. I sincerely recognise that this is tedious, but I think I should clear the air on this.

In another thread herein QZ, Smitty commented that Greg Brooks would receive more respect from QZ-ers if he did this or that, or such and such - as he sees it.

Smitty may be correct in this assumption, but he has overlooked a very relevant factor. This is what I wrote in response, and, as a matter of irony, I offered it to him, and now youall, respectfully....

SMITTY... How many more times do I have to say this...

I don't care about getting respect here on QZ, or commandinng respect, you guys respecting me more, or less, or at all. QZ-ers losing respect for me is something that does not enter my thinking until someone mentions I don't get much of it. They say it as if I would care about it.

YOU are pre-occupied with respect. I am NOT. I care about the respect of Roger and Brian and Jim Beach and Justin and Kris and Sarah and Pete, etc, because they know me vastly better than anyone here ever will. They see the work I do and things I find and uncover, and the numerous things we - as a great team - participate in (most of which never sees the light of day). There is a huge amount of genuine mutual respect between us - there has to be. It is natural and normal and a very nice thing.

GET THIS> To be trusted by the people you respect most in this world, enough to be left in their home, alone, logging memorabilia and being welcome to use their tea bags, cheese and bread, is the hugest compliment I can imagine. It shows a trust and respect element that cannot be paralled here on QZ. Do you see what I mean? This I care about more than most things in my life.

You know yourself Smitty, I'm sure... we all care about respect, but only in certain circles. Yes?

George Bush seems to be respected greatly in the USA, on the whole. God, The Dixie Chicks dared to criticise him (saying they were ashamed he came from the same state as them, etc) and then they got massively ostracised and nearly ended their own career. Now, however, 3 years on they seem to have regained that respect, and then some. Does he care if it's the total oposite in the West and Europe, and no one respects him? I doubt it. And does it matter? I doubt it. RESPECT IS A FLEETING AND TRANSIENT thing.

If the dickhead who lives oposite your house is a moron, and his kids are horrible too, do YOU care whether they respect you or not? Do you care a jot if your newsagent, who irritates you, respects you or not? Or if the bloke that punches you in the face on the football pitch, respects you? Of course you don't. Why the hell would you?

If your mate suddenly said, "Hey Smitty, that guy over there who you do not know from Adam, that complete stranger who writes on QZ, really has no respect for you," would you care? No, you'd be incredulous your mate said it.

Do you care if your work colleagues, family, friends, wife, girlfriend, kids, respect you???? Of course you do. That matters enormously. It's all that matters, let's face it.

Does Smitty or YV or John Stuart give a damn if Greg Brooks respects them? No. Do i need or crave your respect, or that of the QZ community? I do not. Why would I?

Why do so many of you genuinely believe that I am troubled by that aspect? It is mentioned on QZ probably more than any other point... Greg would get more respect if THIS if THAT. If he did what we want him to do.

Smitty, the person you dislike most in your place of work, or at your local pub, or even here on QZ, would RESPECT you much more if you would only do this, or that, or if you would do what HE thinks you should be doing. DO YOU CARE???? You do not. You could not in fact care less.

Respect only matters if you have it from the people in your world that truly matter. I do, and I hope you do.

I'll move this and the "identity thread" to the Personal forum and the "censorship" thread to the Queenzone forum. This forum is for discussion about Queen topics. If you have problems understanding the various forums or the difference between the old board and the new board, please email and ask, I'll be glad to help you.

I hope you do read this and don't freak out about "lost threads". I am starting to get worried about your health.

Ok YV, if you really think it necessary. I'm not sure people are too bothered about that; it's pedantic, but you do that if you think they will be concerned.

There are copious threads here and there which are misplaced, though. There's one on this SERIOUS DISCUSSION area about using CAP BLOCKS and WD40 spray. Does it really matter where it goes? It's not worth your time to move things about YV, i would have thought.

Greg, you don't know the background of this. QZ is very much overrun by loads of less serious topics and Richard created the serious forum specificly for the users who are not interested in polls, fave albums, the sex life of band members and other non-music topics. This forum is a safe haven for a normal discussion and it should be for Queen related topics, only.

It's nothing personal. I move topics all the time and usually, I do not announce it in advance but after you accused me of compromising the forum rules for personal reasons I prefer to let you know in order to avoid more outbursts on your part.

Don't worry, your threads won't be ignored.

Well, I must admit it is nice to have your thoughts on this, Greg. It clarifies some of your attitudes a little bit. But there is still a big difference between some 'healthy' lack of care for the opinions expressed here, there and everywhere and getting in places just to bother and annoy people. What about self-respect? As I said before, I wish you luck and happiness in your life and I DO appreciate most of your work - past, present and future. But everytime you come in here I feel a little ashamed, really. And I certainly can understand if some serious collectors don't want to have 'deals' with you after what comes out of your fingers in these boards. Take care!

Good points indeed. It does explain a lot about why GB isn't always open to certain people on the board. Though, it does make me wonder why regulars on the board will simply insult the guy, rather than thinking before posting. Or, of course, ignoring him instead of getting into some slagging match.

It is in fact quite annoying to see these discussions here. They should be started in the appropriate fora.

Cheers,

How nice it is, and genuinely refreshing, to see such considered and sensible comments here; on this serious subject.

I had expected a torrent of slagging and idiocy, and instead I see there is some food for thought from unexpected corners. I tell you, I honestly wish that MUCH more (and yes I was shouting there) of Queenzone was like this.

I call 'posts' threads, and 'threads' the wrong the thing, and I post in the wrong forum, evidently, and I have little idea about forum ettiquette, that's true. And my grammar is crap, and my spelling... who really cares though. I get by. But actually I'm semi pleased that I don't know the ins and outs of all those things because that would smack to me of having nothing else to do than filling my bonce with rules and regulations and all that. I understand what you say YV and that's rasonable. I will try to post posts and thread threads in the right place next time. I appreciate your keeping me in the loop.

Keep these interesting comments about respect coming, people, because it is good to read. Alas it's only a matter of time before that Newcastle pleb, or others like him, come in and hijack it, but that's QZ life I guess.

Til later....

I would like to know what Brian, or Roger may think if they see that a member of the "Queen organitation" o whatever you may call it... is fighting with fans like college girls... in a fan forum...

I would say "but that's life in almost every not-heavily-moderated online QUEEN fan community".

The sad thing is that this is not 'meant to be' in this way. I sometimes visit other online fan communities where everyone treats each other with respect most of the time. I am part of some PINK FLOYD, Alan Parsons, BEATLES, U2, GENESIS, etc. communities where auto-moderation really works. I have only perceived such high levels of ignorance, intolerance, greed, envy and also lack of humour in QUEEN-related communities. What do you think of that? I am honestly interested in knowing if you ever considered this and what do you make out of it...

Greg has a problem which is:

Dissocial-Narcistic-Paranoid- Antisocial Personality Disorder

Personality disorder, usually coming to attention because of a gross disparity between behaviour and the prevailing social norms, and characterized by

- very low tolerance to frustration and a low
threshold for discharge of aggression

- callous unconcern for the feelings of others

- gross and persistent attitude of irresponsi-
bility and disregard for social norms, rules and
obligations

- persistently bears grudges, i.e., is unforgiving
of insults, injuries, or slights

- perceives attacks on his or her character and is
quick to react angrily or to counterattack

- displays rapidly shifting and shallow
expression of emotions

- shows self-dramatization, theatricality, and
exaggerated _expression of emotion

- shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes

- markedly dysharmonious attitudes and behaviour,
involving usually several areas of functioning,
e.g. affectivity, arousal, impulse control, ways
of perceiving and thinking, and style of
relating to others

Come on, Greg. You have friends in this forum. You know, those people who write to you (or about you) a lot, and those that you write to (or about) a lot! Do you really think they could live without you? LOL.

I would be in lots of stress if I were dealing with priceless objects and recordings all by myself, which it seems you are doing a lot of the time. I have worked in situations (as part of a team) and know what it is like to be left behind to work by myself on deadlines (carrying the load of responsibility for the details) while other people from the team are off doing more glamorous things like traveling the world in private jets, opening bottles of champagne to celebrate work I've done, and going to the "good" parties on boats. I felt appreciated but maybe not as much as I would have liked, given all my hard work. So I think I know "where you are coming from".

Your position is obviously a very important one. No, you are not performing open heart surgery, but a mistake made by you or damage done to a recording could impact millions of Queen fans.

I think some of these factors are creating a level of stress in you, which you then feel the need to let out. You can't ask your family and friends to share your burden.

Hopefully in the future, your life will get to a point where you can enjoy more and worry less. At this point, maybe you can try to have a greater trust in others (including Queen Zoners) and a more positive feeling in your heart regarding your contribution to the Queen fans and their appreciation of you. I think this will happen at some point.

So, just hang in there. Give yourself a break, and don't take things so seriously. Take some time out for yourself each day (don't give all your strength to QPL).

I'm sure you are well appreciated at QPL. We appreciate you here (I do, and I think many others do too). Good luck (and thanks).

cant't you see that Greg Brooks is open for a normal conversation or discussion?

How many times has he avoided a subject or a question?

How many times has he used his writing skills using CAPITAL LETTERS WHICH MEANS SHOUTING when posting a message...

let alone the amount of swearing words he's using to insult people ...

The poor guy has a problem as outlined in one of my previous posts. I am not hoping on a decent response from mr Brooks, since he is not clearly capable of doing so.

Ignoring him doesn't help, so the only thing I feel I can do is to make sure that he fits the profile of a:

Dissocial-Narcistic-Paranoid- Antisocial person with a Personality Disorder

Personality disorder, usually coming to attention because of a gross disparity between behaviour and the prevailing social norms, and characterized by

I'm guessing such a disorder would likely result in being fired, losing one's friends and family relations, possibly becoming isolated, paranoid, and maybe even ending up in a mental hospital, prison, or in a small cabin in the woods writing manifestos.
