before hand: if this topic has already been discussed, then please ignore this.

i heard from a friend that My Chem. Romance's new album is called "The Black Parade". it's been mentioned here (i think in Serious discussion) that Gerard Way is a Queen fan. Does the album title have anything to do with "March Of The Black Queen"? i find the similarities just a little odd...

just wanted to know if anyone else saw that...

What similarities? The word "black" is NOT sufficient.

Gerard Way shouldn't be compared to Freddie.

well put

the "black" as in black parade is supposed to have two origins - one the "nickname" they give their most ardent fans for their goth-like appaearance, and two a funeral procession - you take you pick

and yes they do like queen, green day, and blink 182....so what? everyband gets influences form somewhere...even the beatles did, ffs

as PG points out....using one same word does not constitute copying a song...otherwise every song that followed the first song to use "love" in the title would be copying...and there are zillions of those

"Gerard has cited Queen as a major influence[citation needed]. The tonality of the guitar orchestration in "Welcome to the Black Parade," allegedly resembles the timbral qualities of the guitar orchestration done by Queen guitarist Brian May, especially in "It's a Hard Life" on the Queen album The Works.[citation needed] The opening and closing sections of "Welcome to the Black Parade" are highly reminiscent of the Queen song "Innuendo", the title track of the Queen album, and the Suit of Lights song, "Goodbye Silk City".[citation needed]

Gerard has also stated that the three albums which have the most similarity to this album, and some of the influences on this record, are Queen's A Night at the Opera, The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Pink Floyd's The Wall.[citation needed]

It has also recently been stated by Gerard Way that the Smashing Pumpkins album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness was an influence on this record and that he considered this new album to be MCR's version of Mellon Collie[citation needed]. It can be noted that the album was released in the United States 11 years to the day after the release of Mellon Collie."

I've actually listened to this tonight.

If you think it's anything like MOTBQ you're having more than a romance with chemicals....

Further (hopefully last) opinion.

It sounds like a Goth Green Day trying to write a Jim Steinman song.

i was not only referring to the "black". don't most people march in parades? THATS why i connected March Of The Black Queen to The Black Parade.

I was watching an interview with gerard the other day. He said the biggest influences for the album were A Night At the Opera, The Wall (PF), and The Bends (Radiohead).

Also listening to the big guitar parts after the intro and before the first verse, there is an obvious Brian May influence in there.

As far as harmonies and layers go, there are obvious influences too, at the beginning of the outro, the drums go from really heavy to just rolls, if it wasn't for the layered sound on the kit, and on the instrumentation around, that would sound ridiculously out of place, when I see them live next year, I'm pretty sure they'll change that part.

Oh - one same word and one synonym. My mistake. Obviously this is now established as a line by line rip off of MOTBQ.....
