900m and rising by the day.its nearly 2 years late due to shoddy workmanship and mis management.they might as well have another bar up with the message 2010 wembley nearly completed but the urinals dont flush so delayed for another year!

the original cost was roughly 400m
i give you another example of how badly wembley is going, the millenium stadium, which is being used for football play offs and finals seats 70.000 cost 250m and took 2 years to build and has a roof that can be closed for bad weather.wembley admitidly will have 20,000 more seats but will not have a roof and will cost 3x more and its been 6 years and its still not complete.
the english fa cup final which is the equivalent of the u.s. superbowl is being staged in another country because wembley is not complete.can you imagine how well that would go down in the states if the superbowl was having to be staged in mexico becuase their main stadium is still unfinished?

I've been in the same room as Freddie, unfortunately it was 20 years after he had been in there.

To compare the new Wembley to the Millenium Stadium is like comparing a Ford Focus to a Ferrari.I worked on the Millenium and also have been at Wembley for the past year and there is no comparing the two.The sound system atWembley is truly amazing. When bands play there in the future all they will have to do is plug into Wembleys sound system and hey presto. So there should be no need for delay towers in the middle of the pitch. Also the restuarants and corporate facilities are immense, and there is a higher spec finish everywhere.
It really has been run appallingly and a lot of the bodged work has been done by the foreign labour employed there on lower wages. But all that is an argument for another day.

What's wrong with Manchester & Birmingham you soft southern twat?

I'm a bit pissed off about it too - it didn't need to be there, it could have been geographically central.

^ Jox in America brand new football stadiums are built for less then half that cost.

An American comedian living in Amsterdam had his uncle from Mississippi, a true patriot, over for a weeklong visit. The first day, the two went off for a tour of the town, with the comedian showing his uncle the scene. They took a taxi, and went off through town.

Passing by the Stock Exchange, the uncle tapped the Dutch driver on his shoulder.
"Son, what's that buildin' over there?" he asked. "That's the Beurs van Berlage, sir", the driver replied. The uncle nodded. "And when did they put that up?" he came again. "From 1898 to 1903, sir". The driver replied. "In America, it'd be built in two years, and it'd come in under budget!" the uncle triumphantly exclaimed.

On through town, and they arrived at the Olympic Stadium. The same routine unfolded.
"Son, what's that buildin' over there?"
-"The Olympic Stadium, sir"
"When did they build that?"
-"From 1926 'till 1928 sir"
"In America, they'd get it done in six months, and it'd come in under budget!"
The comedian was starting to feel a bit embarassed in the driverside backseat. Next, they came to the Tuchinski Theatre, and the same thing happened yet again.

Finally, they came to the Head Office of the ING Bank. "Son what's that there building?"
-"That would be the ING Head Office, sir."
"So when'd they build it?"
-"I don't know sir, it wasn't there yesterday"

I don't get the joke. It's probably just me being stupid, but I'll be honest and admit it.

Probably you need to know A'Dam a little bit to see. All the buildings mentioned took an awful long time to build, because they were awfully big and complex. The bragging Southerner is finally confronted with a building that took six years to build, but the taxi driver outbrags him by claiming it wasn't there yesterday, so it must've been built during the night or something.

As I suspected. I did get the gist of the joke, but it must be certain intricacies that just didn't get across to me. Despite this, I actually did enjoy it. The Uncle "gets served." Hard.

Who cares what the hell it costs as long as it's open next year. It'll still be the best sports and live gig venue in Britain when it's finished. I hope!!!
