One of the few truly fine men in the Catholic church; no wonder the papacy is doing all it can to block him and people like Bishop Gaillot.

He saved thousands of lives in the French Resistance during WWII, where he got his nickname ('Abbé Pierre', meaning "father Pete" or "abbot Pete"), and went on to support the poor and the homeless, as well as promoting a more social Catholicism, including acceptance of homosexuals and tolerance.

The world needs more like him; instead, as of today, we have one fine person fewer.

Now that's a true christian.

The one who actually puts the money where his mouth is. The one who dedicates his time and puts huge amounts of effort on helping others.
Abbé Pierre is a fine example to the so called "christians" of what makes a Man of God, instead of constantly cricitising the morality of others.

Let us hope that his legacy will always live. Not only in France but across any borders.

Thanks for the link, Caspar.
