The earliest recording available is the Philadelphia show in November '77. Don't know if that's before the NOTW release, though...

Rick is correct but they also performed the "fast" version for the BBC sessions on October 28th as well and I believe they aired it the next day on the radio. A shorter version of "Rock You" was also recorded during that session. That would be the version we're all familiar with. Hope that helps.

It would have be cool and extremely cool if they had performed that song just before the album release !!

At the time, albums were released at least 2 weeks to a month earlier in the UK than in North America. Is the October 28 date the US release or Europe/UK?

You know, good times are now.

There was no live performance before the album release. News Of The World was released on 28 October 1977 in the UK, and on 1 November 1977 in the USA.

The Jazz tour had started before that album was released, same for Hot Space, but not for News Of The World.
