With Tony Blair's impending departure and Gordon Brown's impending arrival, who do you think was the greatest British PM in history?

Spencer Perceval is my idiot answer.

Winston Churchill my more serious answer.

I reckon Churchill too. The Iron Lady seemed a bit scary, there was a reason good ol David Lange told her not to "forget her broomstick" hehe.

Churchill's second term (1951-1955) was a totally disgraceful, vomit inducing cesspool of poor policy.

Clement Attlee gets my vote, for his reconstruction and the introduction of the wellfare state, as well as the way in which he handled decolonization.

You daft bastards.

Course its Churchill.

If Johnny Foreigner didn't surrender at the first sign of a Bratwurst he wouldn't have needed to save Europe.

Ah, right. So apart from the fact that Britain was helpless without:
a) the supply-convoys from the US right down from the first days in '40
b) the Red Army in the east
c) the Free French in North Africa
d) the Americans to make sure you could hold on to your island, and actually get off it

Well, yes, apart from that, you are almost right. Then, I would like to point out how hard the Belgians fought, to name but one of the peoples who resisted, AND I would like to point out that it was also your country that sold Chechoslowakia to Adolf.

I think you'll find it wasn't my country that sold 'Chechoslowakia' (wherever that may be) down the swanny.

Who brokered deals to keep supplies coming to Britain and Russia from the US?

Who made sure victory in Europe was seen as the priority (although God knows why)rather than the Pacific?

Who urged on the Americans to take Berlin before the Russians got to it, for fear of the consequences?

First Honourary Citizen of the US anybody?

I don't think it was Hercule Poirot or Tin Tin, although you probably know otherwise.

Umm....aren't we being a bit over-dramatic here? The country is not dying...the final nail is not in the coffin. And yes, I'd even say that about the US. You are just in a major transition period. Happens to every country at some point, and everyone always seems to think the country is done whenever it does. We are in a major transition period too...so is France, and so are a lot of other countries in the world. I may get cynical sometimes, but can't we at least have a glimmer of hope before we shit on everything?
