News > John Deacon & Queen at premiere party

Added on 15-May-2002

Following the premiere performance of We Will Rock You at London's Dominion theatre it was time for the guests and performers to let their hair down and party. The Astoria in London was the venue for this exclusive invite-only party whose guests featured many of the celebrities who attended the musical and of course those responsible for the musical itself.

Spike Edney's SAS band provided the core entertainment. With such as star studded guest list to the party it was hardly surprising that Spike was joined on stage by many greats of the music world including Chris Thompson, Leo Sayer, Patti Russo, Gary Kemp, and of course Queen-members Brian May and Roger Taylor. A Heinekin holding Brian May joined the backing singers for a lively rendition of "Since You've Been Gone". A couple of songs later saw Brian pick up his famous guitar and Roger settle down on the second drum kit. The crowd were then treated to a number of classic rock songs including the Queen classic "Hammer To Fall". The style of the performance was very much a "party jam session". All of the musicians and singers returned to the stage for the final number, "With A Little Help From My Friends" and were sent off by a crowd who knew they had been present for a great musical experience.

Whilst the elusive John Deacon was spotted at the party he did not join his fellow band-members on stage. The party guests included celbrities from all groups including Elaine Paige who has recorded "The Queen Album", Richard Branson the entrepreneur responsible for the Virgin brand, and television personalities from well-known UK shows such as "Eastenders" and "Brids Of A Feather".
