Chances are, at least one band or musician has affected your life. Is it U2? The Rolling Stones? Patti Smith? The Wu Tang Clan? When Mike Dawson was in elementary school, his life changed the moment he saw Queen's video for I Want to Break Free. He became obsessed with the band and drew strength from its music, particularly as his family relocated from England to America. FreddieIn Dawson's engaging new graphic memoir, Freddie & Me: A Coming-of-Age (Bohemian) Rhapsody (Bloomsbury, $19.99), the cartoonist traces his life from that Free moment to the present ... all through the lens of Queen. It's impressive to see how much of an impact Freddie Mercury had on the author; the singer's death in 1991 is a particularly devastating moment for Dawson, who was in high school at the time.
