News > Queen ban smoking on tour

Added on 26-Jan-2005

British rockers QUEEN have banned audiences from smoking during their comeback tour in March (05) - because it damages their new frontman PAUL RODGERS' vocal chords. The newly reformed band lost their singer, FREDDIE MERCURY, to AIDS in 1991, but have replaced him with ex-FREE singer Rodgers.

But Rodgers fears he will never be able to live up to his predecessor's performance if he's breathing in smoke fumes during their European dates.

The band's guitarist BRIAN MAY explains, "The non-smoking request comes from Paul, who finds it seriously affects his voice.

"I hope people will understand. Maybe we could sell patches at the door?"
