August saw the release of “Queen Guitar Rhapsodies” which features the music of Queen performed by world renowned classical guitarist Carlos Bonell along with the Lara Symphony Orchestra from Venezuela. The orchestra’s youth choir is also featured on “Barcelona” and “Teo Torriate” The album is the brain child of David Young, life long Queen fan and guitar dep for Alan Darby in the Queen musical “We Will Rock You” at the Dominion in London’s West End.The album features original arrangements for guitar by David, Carlos and Gary Hind as well as orchestral arrangements by Gary Hind.This extremely varied release features a huge dynamic range from solo guitar pieces to full blown arrangements for guitar, orchestra and choir.Carlos, David and Gary travelled to Barquisimeto in 2007 to record with the orchestra which had many players performing at the BBC proms in 2007.Barquisimeto is the birthplace of the now world famous education system “El sistema” where children from all backgrounds are given the opportunity to study and play classical music. The system has achieved staggering results since its inception in 1974 producing some great musicians such as Gustavo Dudamel who is music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
