A multi-million dollar musical featuring 24 songs from legendary glam rock band Queen is coming to Auckland's Civic Theatre this month.Meanwhile, an exhibition of 66 historic photos offering a rare and intimate peek into the life of rock band Queen and the band's late gay lead singer Freddie Mercury will be on display in Auckland's Central City Library during the musical's two-week run.
We Will Rock You's international cast includes New Zealand's pop princess Annie Crummer as the Killer Queen and rock star INXS finalist Miguel Ayesa reprising his West End starring role of Gallileo.
The musical is a futurist adventure set in the year 2350 - a time when live music is banned on earth, but the kids are in rebellion, fighting against the all powerful Globalsoft Corporation which controls their lives and feeds them a diet of synthesized pop.
We Will Rock You features two dozen legendary hits from Queen including Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are The Champions, Radio Ga Ga, Another One Bites The Dust and Crazy Little Thing Called Love.
The accompanying photo exhibition spans the history of the rock band's illustrious career and soaks in the diversity, excitement and raw energy of the world's musical hotspots – from the UK to South America, from Japan to Mexico. World famous photographers such as Neal Preston and Douglas Pudifoot get up close and personal with individual band members.
Queen – We Will Rock You is on stage from 26 October until 11 November at Auvlna'd Civic Theatre. Bookings can be made through Ticketek.
