Freddie and Queen's Live Aid performance featured in a segment about Sir Bob Geldof on CBS Sunday Morning, 06.26.05This morning, US television network CBS's Sunday Morning program included a segment by veteran CBS news reporter, Mark Phillips, about Sir Bob Geldof and his involvement with Live Aid and next week's Live 8. Queen's performance at Live Aid was shown in a tease leading up to the segment, and Live Aid clips featured in the Geldof story included Freddie Mercury singing "We Are the Champions." In a shot of the audience from the back of the stage, John Deacon's back also makes an appearance along with Freddie's. Freddie is also briefly visible in a group shot singing "Do They Know It's Christmas?" in the segment about the enigmatic, lovingly disheveled, and charmingly combative Sir Bob Geldof.
Queen's show-stealing Live Aid appearance is generally considered by the news media as the visual Live Aid reference when citing the event in news stories. Mick Jagger, Tina Turner, Paul McCartney, Alison Moyet, and Pete Townshend were also included in the clips from Live Aid.
