Joss' big duet with Brian May scrapped.. because he'd rather spend time with the 'real stars' WHAT BRIAN WILL BE DOING INSTEAD
JOSS Stone has been left in the lurch by Brian May - because he'd rather gaze into space than perform a duet with her at the Concert For Diana on Sunday.
We can reveal that the Queen lead guitarist has pulled out of a much-hyped duet with 20-year-old Joss, so he can work on his astronomy PhD thesis.
The last-minute decision has thrown Devon-raised Joss' set into chaos. She'll now have to perform Queen's Under Pressure at the new Wembley Stadium on her own.
AdvertisementHer people were adamant yesterday morning that the duet WAS going ahead.
But then word filtered through just a few hours later that Brian had pulled out.
Last night, his spokesman Phil Symes denied that the rock legend was ever definitely going to play.
He told us: "He was never confirmed although they were in discussions about it.
Brian's up to his ears trying to complete his PhD thesis so he couldn't do it."
And Joss' people later did a U-turn saying that she and Brian had ditched the duet because there wasn't any time to rehearse.
Brian's decision is a massive blow to the organisers, who are desperate for more big names for the gig, alongside Take That, Sir Elton John, Rod Stewart, Lily Allen, Tom Jones, Will Young, P Diddy and Kanye West.
The concert, held on what would have been Princess Diana's 46th birthday, marks the 10th anniversary of her death in Paris in August 1997.
An insider tells us: "The Joss and Brian duet was going to be one of the highlights, everyone's gutted it's fallen through."
One person who'll certainly be disappointed is Prince William. We revealed earlier this month that the young Royal had been bombarding Joss with phone calls, begging her to perform some of his mother's favourite hits.
And it was Wills who asked Joss to sing Under Pressure because Diana was such a massive fan of Freddie Mercury.
Our source adds: "Joss is delighted that Wills is phoning her - they hit it off instantly.
"They've spent ages talking about which songs she should perform and have painstakingly gone through a list of Diana's most loved artists.
"They finally settled on Queen and Tina Turner, and Joss is incredibly honoured to be asked to perform them."
So, no Pressure then...
