This year, the team has gone polar opposite with their musical tastes, selecting the work of legendary rock band Queen. Caryn Rupp, the second Chilliwack native on the team, recommended the music to coach Leslie Rupp.

“A team from Sweden skated to it last year,” Caryn explains. “And they did really well with it. I brought it up to our coach, not really thinking she’d go for it. But she felt a connection with it too. It’s very crowd pleasing and it’s more fun to skate to.”

Leslie admits to being skeptical at first, but after listening to the upbeat, whimsical work of the late Freddie Mercury, she was sold.

“We put together a medley that includes four songs,” Leslie said. “We start with The Show Must Go On, We Will Rock You and Killer Queen and we finish up with Bohemian Rhapsody.
