News > 'Under Pressure' used in ESPN National Spelling Bee ads

Added on 26-May-2005

The familiar bass line in 'Under Pressure' is played throughout a terrific ESPN TV and radio ad for the 2005 Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee competition, the finals to be aired June 2nd on ESPN.Using clips of individual past contestants to spell out the word 'P-R-E-S-S-U-R-E, a child's voice then announces the title, date, time, and that it can be found on(back to the individual film clips) 'E-S-P-N'

What makes the ad so well done, clever, and just plain hilarious, is that the 'N' is spelled by the 1997 champion, who can be be seen at

Whenever a link is found for the ad, it'll be posted
